Are they still trying to make this a scandal?

2013-08-20 10:42:37 AM
Like totally, Republicans, stop trying to make "Benghazi" happen.

2013-08-20 10:46:05 AM
That's hilarious.  Republicans are so angry about Clinton that they are skipping right over the fact that now no one is being punished for their Benghazi scandal.

2013-08-20 10:52:25 AM
I'm still not entirely sure what the "scandal" is supposed to be.

CNN has been helping out the Issa/Graham crowd. Its now the "Benghazi 4." The scandal is that they didn't have a snappy catch phrase to go with it. That's fixed now. Its the BENGHAZI 4, got it?

Though one good thing came out of it all, SNL actually had a skit that was funny, they had Jodi Arias testify in the Benghazi hearings.

Is it still going on?
No, it ended months ago.
Who do you think did it?
Well, we know who did it.

Aarontology: I'm still not entirely sure what the "scandal" is supposed to be.

No one does. It's either that Obama blamed the attack on some video that caused a lot of other attacks or that it was the wording, he said it was an act of terror instead of a terrorist attack (or maybe it's the other way around, who knows) or they didn't react fast enough, in which case it was more of a fark up than a scandal. In any case, it's the Republicans trying to use the deaths of 4 people for their own ends and they suck at it.

That part is arguably true, I suppose.  But the reasonable reaction to that, I would think, would be "Damn, that sucks.  We should probably re-evaluate our security protocol at our overseas embassies", not "DERPGASM FARTB0NG0!!!!"

So basically, they're outraged over semantics? Good lord.

Let's not forget Romney's smirk over this:

I should have said worst case scenario, it was a fark up. I wasn't there. I don't know anything about embassy protocol. I'm not qualified to declare that what happened wasn't unavoidable and neither are the Republicans who are screaming "scandal or "incompetence". It's been stated many times before but a shiatload more embassy personnel were killed under previous Presidents than this one.

Republicans just really suck at attacking Obama. You'd think they'd be better at it.

Oh, I agree.  It was just a bad deal, I don't personally blame Obama for it.  I'm just saying that after something like that, it's perfectly reasonable to discuss embassy security and re-evaluate everything to see what can be done to prevent the next one.  Even in that worst case scenario, I doubt it went all the way to Obama's desk at all.  It's more likely that some undersecretary of the State dept. could have acted sooner, or someone missed a memo or something of that nature.  A scandal this is not.  A learning experience, it should be.

In before the slack-jawed yokel stinks this place up with concern trolling.

I know I'm just so disappointed in Obama that I'll never be able to vote for him again for President.

I may need a certain number if beers before. I can discuss this. Can anyone suggest the appropriate quantity of beers for this discussion?

Lemme see if I got this straight:

GOPers cut funding for State in spite of the fact that people warn them that bad things can happen.

Bad things happen.

GOPers rage, demand action.

State suspends 4 people.

GOPers rage and demand more punishment.

GOPers get ignored for a year.

State reinstates the 4 people.

GOPers rage that Clinton 'fired' them in first place.

If a person actually acted out these mood swings in front of me, I'd insist that they need to go get a psych evaluation.

Saborlas: Are they still trying to make this a scandal?

From Issa:

Obama administration officials repeatedly promised the families of victims and the American people that officials responsible for security failures would be held accountable. Instead of accountability, the State Department offered a charade that included false reports of firings and resignations and now ends in a game of musical chairs where no one misses a single day on the State Department payroll. It is now clear that the personnel actions taken by the Department in response to the Benghazi terrorist attacks was more of a public relations strategy than a measured response to a failure in leadership.

In the course of our investigation, the Oversight Committee learned that the State Department's review of these four individuals did not include interviews with them or their supervisors to either substantiate or challenge allegations. The Oversight Committee will expand its investigation of the Benghazi terrorist attack to include how a supposed 'Accountability Review Board' investigation resulted in a decision by Secretary Kerry not to pursue any accountability from anyone.

Yep...

*ahem* At the time of the report's release, Pickering said the ARB had determined that blame for the security failures leading up to the Bengazi attack should be placed at the Assistant Secretary level but that no officials had committed breaches of duty that would warrant outright termination.

Oh, and fark-off Issa. Maybe you should be more concerned about finding those actually responsible for carrying out the attack than trying to make heads roll to score cheap political points.

With ISSA in charge of the investigation Hillary has nothing to worry about.  ISSA couldn't find the bottom of a can much less get to the bottom of Clinton's role in the Benghazi scandal. ISSA blows a lot of smoke but never finds the fire.
