They're great for cutting limes on. Also boogie boarding.

That's great and all, but it needs an iconic "must-have" feature like the GS4 and Note. the kind of thing everyone will find so useful, they'll wonder why phones didn't have that feature before now. How about a built-in garage door opener?

"Phablet"? No. Just... no. That can't become a thing.

Stop it. That's an unacceptable portmanteau.

Why does it have to be a jumbo phone?  Can't it be a small tablet that happens to make phone calls?

Meanwhile, in pre-Commonwealth of Independent States Russia, Windows Phone phablet  announces you.

I just use for 40" flatscreen for a phone.

I had a special backpack made to carry it.

Surprised this only has a 720p screen. The S4 and I think Note 2 have 1080p, and they are much smaller devices.

Confused why they would put in midrange specs on such a large phone.

Wonderful.

Now how about releasing that android flip phone in the US?

Nope. The Note 2 is also a 720p screen.
"Mid-range specs" given that size also mean that it's going to have pretty decent battery life even in spite of the huge screen.

That being said, I'm thankful that at least some device manufacturers are willing to recognize that not everyone's personal information appliance needs to be the same shape and size.

The only thing I can think of is to keep costs down. Battery life is also a factor but not quite that much

I might get the Note3 which will be 5.9" (but in the same frame as the note 2) but this phone is just stupid. once you hit 6 inches you are in tablet territory and it should stay there.

Yeah but the note 2 was last year, this year is all about 1080, and that is what the note 3 is *supposed* to have.

I would love to get a 7inch table that can make phone calls. Have it work in only speaker mode and if you want a private call, hook it to a bluetooth ear unit or Google Glasses or something.

I've honestly wanted this since the first iPad.

Jesus, you need to get internet under your rock, this has been a term now for a few years(since 2008 or so), specifically for things like the Note II, where it's truly in between the sizes.

On a different note, my cousin has the Note II, and she is having her eyes go out. Because of that the larger screen allows her dialer, texts and emails to all be in a large easy to read format. She loves it. I can see where these things would be very useful for the right demographic.

Maybe because the difference between a tablet and phone(Besides size) is the ability to make phone calls...

As I mentioned in another post, the lower resolution lets people have larger text and icons on screen, maybe the people who are buying this pefer that over a super high resolution that results in small text and icons.

Because this phone is at least 8 months old. I've been reading about it for a long time. I don't understand why this article announces it like it's new.

Hey shut up...I have giant Sasquatch hands.

The only thing these things are good for is lifting things, and making women orgasm. That's all I say! The rest of the time is an unadulterated nightmare!

So much this. I make less than an hour of phone calls a month on average. I prefer text and email so I can have a record when able.

I think PDA would still be the best definition for these devices, but that term is obviously too old and caries too much of the old Palm stigma.

My son usually attracts attention when he blithely palms his iPad like a basketball.

He's 6'5" and a high school Junior.

I might go for one of these if it has an S-pen, but I am not sure it would given that it is not in the note series.  I have huge sasquatch hands too.  I have the original note, and it is great - I have had it the longest I have ever had a smartphone.  The "killer app" for the note series is that pen, which lets you take notes while resting your hand on the screen.  The notes then sync to evernote, which is awesome.  Plus, the big screen is nice for browsing, and for eyes that are getting older.  I don't really care what people think when I hold my slab up to my ear - I have mine in an otterbox case, so it is even massiver! - but there are also bluetooth headsets and handsets one can get, if you want.  I would get the note II, but there is nothing really compelling enough to justify it.  I don't game on my phone, so the performance increases are not that important to me.  I wish they'd make a 10-12 inch phone/tablet with a built-in flip-phone style bluetooth handset (and S-pen).  I would love to have a single device that would get 3g/4g data, with a true tablet size screen, and support for voice calls via a smaller handset/headset.

Interesting... i have been waiting for the Galaxy Note 3 in a month, but that one is only 5.8 inches.... I'd check out this Mega....  I don't care how stupid i'd look making calls... Its a dang phone.... or more accurately, its a tablet that can make calls... i think thats cool and would serve my purposes.

The Note 2 is by far the best phone I've used, having switched over from the i-paradigm. It's form factor is a bit unwieldy at times, but my usage of the phone features is minor (and most of the time it's on headset/speakerphone) compared to my usage of the computing features. I can't recall the last time I fired up my iPad. I may upgrade to the 3, but what kills the Mega for me is the lack of the S - pen. It's a small use feature as well, but when I do use it, the productivity gains are huge compared to life before.
