gilgigamesh: ansius: P.S., if you've never seen how well Prince can play the guitar, look at this video of him onstage with Tom Petty and Jeff Lynne

Heh. The first time I have ever laughed aloud at a YouTube comment:

Daniel Sosa 2 days ago
I hope that guitar was 18

Heh, that's pretty funny. I lol'd

bigbabysurfer: Also, DUDE CAN PLAY GUITAR.

Ok, I watched this again because I can't seem to stay asleep. And let me tell you, Prince represents why we all got into air guitar in the first place. Before him, air guitar was a sloppy art. He perfected it and showed a generation how to confidently enter air contests at bars around the world.

Too bad none of us can actually play the actual instrument like he can but hey, better the minor league than nothing.

/GF despises my air guitar antics, especially when jumping up and off of furniture

I absolutely love that performance, Prince is on fire laying it all out there.

Prince is in the Traveling Wilburies now? I guess if you're going to replace Roy Orbison, you go with an equal music genius.

don't be hurtful, that was pretty good.
/I will say this. squidbillies /Mephistopheles episode I know most of you have seen it. it's the best.

What did I say that was hurtful? Orbison was a musical genius and so is Prince.

I entered this thread hoping for some good links to Prince performances I can view later (no YouTube at work, sadly).  I'm now leaving this thread with a craving for bacon pancakes.

Pentaxian: rickythepenguin: i'm beign shallow (what? a man?) but....she's one of the rare instances in music of of being literally a world class musician and being an absolute knockout. like, eric clapton, jimmy page, santana, SRV, gilmour, etc., yeah, they are who they are but no one every confused them with being the most handsome cats around. candy dulfer is just complete UNNNNNNNFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF.

Don't forget:

And she is one of the great female singers as well. I heard her when she was touring with Robert Plant and she was freakishly good. I once got in trouble because of her. I was watching one of her concerts on TV and my wife asked "who's that?" and my mouth engaged before my brain and I said "your replacement". I have to say our couch is surprisingly comfortable to sleep on for extended periods.

My aunt used to take fiddle lessons from Alison before she got famous. My aunt still has some of her early demo cassettes, too. Having had a chance to see her live (playing Bluegrass), I can attest her talent, as well her band Union Station. In fact, her and I grew up in the same neck of the woods, and she's only 7 days older than me.

I think my cousin is a better violin player, but that in no way detracts from Alison being a world class violinist herself. I can't express that enough, she is a World Class Violinist, with very few peers in her realm of talent.

WhiskeySticks: Was fortunate enough to see Prince at Summerfest in Milwaukee a handful of years ago. I knew he was short, but damn, that man in tiny.

I was there. Fourth of July fireworks going off while he and the band jammed Hendrix and Zeppelin.

Un-farking-believably awesome.

rickythepenguin: Diogenes: But I still wish it were Rick James' new album.

fark YO COUCH, attractive and successful black person.....

dennerman: Well, I immediately wonder how a hippie Dead loving check is going to react to my love of Prince, and she says, "I love Prince!" I knew right then I had a keeper.

dig if you will a picture, of Prince just destroying "Morning Dew".  I can totally hear that.  Actaully, how about a Purple Rain > Dew > Purple Rain sandwich?

/with a "Rain" encore like the GD did from time to time
//CSB: Calexico does an awesome Tomorrow Never Knows, with the melody to "Within You Without You" snuck in, and towards the end, they throw in the "sunshine, I don't mind" chorus to Rain.  yeah, it rules your face

Just when I thought I couldn't love you more (you're favorited as 'adorable'), you tell me of this awesomeness of which I was previously unaware, and must do more research. I thank you.
