The dj's name is Mike Simpson.

In 1985 I worked at the Music Plus in Pomona CA, while Mike and his friend John King went to the Claremont Colleges just up the street. They came in often to buy the new 12" single format.
They caught more than a few rolled eyes from the ...ummmm..."darker skinned" djs always shopping in the 12" single section, at the "white boys trying to be djs".

Mike and John had a rap show on the college station KSPC 88.7, started going by the moniker The Dust Brothers (EZ Mike and King John), and produced records by new So Cal artists Tone Loc and Young MC, then met the Beastie Boys and produced Paul's Boutique.

BraveNewCheneyWorld: Rap is by definition, bad.

What y'all don't understand is that BNCW is using "bad" in the hip sense. I knew you were cool, Cheney.
