I had a hand me down version from a cousin, by the time I got it, the brushes were so worn all the players did was go in circles.

Electric football is a metaphor for America: always shaking, always noisy, never really knowing where it's going.

It sucked.  I never liked it.

That's all they ever did, no matter how old it was.  Sometimes the guys with their elbows sticking out would hook together and circle around like they were square dancing.

What do you mean, "imagine"?

My lil brother got one of these in the 70's. I'm pretty sure the players in set he had were sort of adjustable; I remember moving a small plastic lever to determine which direction the player would turn and how tight the turn would be...yes, he and I had some intense games!

Got one in the early 70's (with Dallas v. Miami rematch of Super Bowl V).  Played it with my brother.  Then, in the 80's, got one of these:

Play it again, along with all the other ones that your friends had that looked so cool, but your parents refused to shell out another $ 20 for.

Football, even in tabletop form, is still a contact sport and carries a risk of injury. For example, everybody of a certain age has just clenched their palms in recollection of pinchy trackball-related injuries.

I still have that on my iPad. And it's still a ridiculous game.

Does the iPad one have the same features as on the Android (Amazon App Store, not Google Play) version? Specifically, the buttons can get worn down over time, and you sometimes have to "change" the battery when it starts going wonky?

Step one: Buy vintage football game in thrift store.
Step two: Put little tutus on the players.
Step three: Donate sealed game to thrift store.

I had that baseball game. It was a lot of fun. It wasn't completely random, either. Aside from picking your team, there was a tiny bit of strategy, too.

Babe Ruth's card was about 50% "strike"

Is that next to The Derek Zoolander School for Kids Who Can't Read Good and Want to Do Other Stuff Good Too?

OK. After you vibrate that way, you can fall down. Nelson, you just spin around in a circle.

Huh.... Still available on Amazon for about 50.

Never got my flea market bought version to work right.

My brother got this one year for christmas. We played for hours in the neighborhood. Our one friend somehow got his hands on a whole crap ton of extra bases and he had most of the NFL teams.

I always wanted to believe it was fun, but really it wasn't.  Table hockey...now there was a game.

I remember electric football when it was called Perfection.

My cousin had one.

Folding a sheet of notebook paper into a triangle was better.

For real old school football, my stepfather had something called Pholo Electric Football.  The plays (offensive and defense) were printed on paper.  You'd each pick a play and then put it face down on this box with a light bulb inside.  Then you pull out a the shade covering the light and the success of the play was determined by which play you called and how it was lined up.  It was a more fun than you'd think - it was mostly about your strategy of play calling.

Why why WHY hasn't there been an update/remake of Mutant League Games? It could not possibly be that difficult to graft a few extra things into the current Madden/NHL engine.

Either of those is right next to "Remake/update of X-Wing/TIE Fighter" on the shut up and take my money list of video games.

The faceoff ramp broke on Christmas day, the netting came down shortly thereafter, the puck ejectors for the nets broke and the dials came out of the scoreboards.  Despite all that BEST CHRISTMAS PRESENT EVER

Monday night talking football was full of win.

"hand off to the half back, lateral to the quarterback.  flea flicker pass, touchdown!"

Heh. My brothers had one and quickly got bored with it. It ended up becoming a cat toy. Our cat Mao loved swatting at the players as they went in circles.
