I got news for them.  There's public outrage in Marietta, too.  It's a law and order town, having elected extreme right wingers such as Bob Barr, Larry McDonald, and Phil Gingry in the past.

I wouldn't want to be black and on trial in Brunswick.

That white Hispanic toddler provoked it.

I don't think you're going to find a favorable jury for that anywhere in the world.  Child molesters and/or killers are pretty much the scum of the Earth, even behind bars other criminals can't stand them.

Jesus Christmas I had forgotten about this...  Such a monster.

Yup enjoy the death row isolation wing at Jackson. The outcome of the trial is a forgone conclusion, they moved it so he would live through the trial.

Follow-up story in six months will be about his murder at the hands of a life without parole inmate.

Unless they keep him in protective custody, which they might well do.  Which is its own sort of hell, really, living in a concrete cage with virtually no human contact isn't what I'd call living.

This is a shocking, troubling but also ridiculous case.  I mean, yeah people can be cruel but to just execute a baby in a stroller?  That's like comic-book arch-villain material.  I think I will just cling to hope that this is some sort of set-up, that random, teenaged strangers won't execute babies point-blank.

The behavior of the suspects' families and the mayor was outrageous. The victim's mother was thrown under the bus by her estranged daughter saying she shot the baby for insurance. What a soap opera. This case hasn't gotten have the media attention it deserves.

And the suspect's mother was charged with obstruction for disposing of her son's pistol by throwing it into a pond, though she later led investigators to it.

Why because it'll just warm the cockles of America's heart?  A baby was killed, the police swarmed the area, they rounded up some suspects and did a full investigation leading to indictments and now a trial.  Terrifying, sure, but that's how the system is supposed to work.

The interfering interlopers add some spice to it, and thus we get to read about all that, but ultimately this seems (beyond the level of inhumanity) pretty routine.

SlothB77: who kills a baby in a stroller?

A defective person.  Some people are defective.  It's not necessarily their fault, but we really do need to do a better job of identifying them before they do something so horrible.  Who shoots up an elementary school and murders 20 children?  Can't be right in the head and do that.  I'm a father, but even if I weren't, I can't think of any situation that might present itself to me where I would think it appropriate to murder a child.  Has got to be mental illness.

2013-08-19 11:50:01 AM

nekom: , I can't think of any situation that might present itself to me where I would think it appropriate to murder a child.

Murder is never appropriate. That's why it's murder.

Now killing a child? Well, thanks to modern medicine and the Geneva Convention, there's few cases where this would be a good conclusion to come to. Oh, but I wish I could say I cannot conceive of such horrific circumstances. I always forget the battlefield, but when the Romans were besieging some Jews in a fortress and were about a day away from breaching the walls after MONTHS of fighting and the Jews all killed themselves? It seems horrible at first, but then you gotta think what the Romans would have done to them. *shudder* It's sickening, but totally reasonable they did that.

Anyway, history's dark spots are darker than a lot of what we deal with today.

Jury selection begins Monday for the trial of a coastal Georgia teenager accused of gunning down a baby in his stroller.

I'd shoot the baby too if it stole my stroller.

No, but it's sort of traditional to have a fair trial before you convict someone.

Modern prison does not work like that, unfortunately.  Today there are entire sections of the prisons where the "worst" are put together and lightly guarded.   Child killers, rapist, child rapist, ect ect ect they put them in this section, no gang affiliations no contact with the rest of the prison.  When in this section, they are perfectly safe, untouchable.  Its actually more comfortable for these inmates in prison than any other prisoner could ever hope for.  Less stress, less violence, virtually no rapes, they are truly a band of brothers surrounded by other inmates who can not get to them to harm them.

Prison is not what it used to be and its time people woke up to that fact.
