I'm okay with this.

2013-08-18 10:57:35 PM
And the problem is?

2013-08-18 11:00:16 PM
It was a shiatty call. Pitcher should have been tossed. Giarardi too, but after the pitcher. Or Dempster could have at least managed it on the first pitch

2013-08-18 11:02:16 PM
People that hate on Alex Rodriguez have jealousy issues.  I am not a fan, but I certainly have no reason to hate him or even root against him when he's not playing my team.

Joe Girardi just got elevated to awesome in my book.  Regardless of what he personally thinks of A-Rod -he protects his guys.

2013-08-18 11:03:04 PM
I'm sorry, as much as I hate Boston/NE fans and players for just about every sport there is, I think that this is spectacular.

2013-08-18 11:05:55 PM
So, is getting a homer later in the game some kind of getting even?

2013-08-18 11:40:19 PM
Giarardi should have be tased and charged with trespass when he refused to leave after being ejected.

2013-08-18 11:56:09 PM
I don't care what you think of A-rod, or the Yankees, if you intentionally bean a player you should get tossed. Period.

2013-08-19 12:01:35 AM
I can't condone taking 4 shots at someone to bean them. You hit 'em or you don't and move on. Same stance when I took when Greinke went for Montero.

2013-08-19 12:01:57 AM
"Beaning" a player used to actually mean something. Tony Conigliaro got beaned. Dickie Thon got beaned. Andre Dawson and Terry Steinbach got beaned. A-Rod got hit by a pitch. Nothing I saw was aimed at his head. Let's not make it worse than it really was.

The sad thing was that it took so many pitches. Drysdale, Gossage, Gibson, any number of well-known brushback pitchers would have blasted him in the ribs with the first pitch.

2013-08-19 12:05:29 AM
Was it Dumpster who gave up a home run to AssRod later on?

2013-08-19 12:06:05 AM
I wonder how many Yankee fans actually laughed/cheered.

corgic: It was a shiatty call. Pitcher should have been tossed.

Uh, that was worse than a shiatty call. It was obviously intentional. The first pitch was just playing with him. There is no excuse for remaining in the game after that.

Maybe next time someone will throw a bat at that piece of sh*t's head. Cheat and a rat. Hope he winds up homeless with AIDS living in a bus station bathroom.

Dempster spent six odd years with the Cubs. Maybe that IS the best he can pitch.

that would not have happened if Zimmerman has waddled at him.  his fat ass had no business being out there for the brawl.

2013-08-19 01:04:45 AM
What's sad is he didn't get beaned for cheating, he got beaned for ratting. Victor Conte says 50% of players use PEDs. That is sobering to contemplate.

And A-Rod went 3-for-4 with a homerun and a sac-fly RBI.

/A-Rod's still a cheater.
//The pitcher still should have been ejected.

I agree.  I actually felt bad for Pedro Martinez regarding that situation.  What was he supposed to do?

So he would not have gone 3/4, HR and 2 rbi if he had not used PED's (allegedly)?

I think it is disingenuous to call PED use cheating.  A foreign substance on the ball is cheating, corking a bat is cheating.  Cheating should mean an infraction occurring on the field of play, during play.  If you are going to say PED use is cheating then how do you exempt players who used PED's (or any drugs) before they were banned?  That seems hypocritical.

Only in baseball is it considered an appropriate response to anything to hurl a hard object 90 mph at another person.

Also, if you're not going to toss a guy for clearly throwing at somebody four times in a row, what the hell are you going to toss him for?

Scuffing the ball?

2013-08-19 04:20:17 AM
You get one shot at someone.  Plausible deniability that you weren't throwing at the guy, and then everyone can wink at each other about how it "slipped."

But if you throw at a guy more than once, everyone has to acknowledge that it was intentional.  To paraphrase Mitch Hedberg, par for throwing at a guy is one, because if you hit a guy in two, you're an asshole.

2013-08-19 04:32:13 AM
Every team should be throwing inside every time ARod comes up to bat. If he gets hit, well I'm pretty sure he knows someone who can help him heal quickly from any boo-boo he might get. In short, send his cheating ass to 1st base every single time, either walk him or hit him, depending on if you need the pitcher to stay on the mound or not. Let him end his career trying to steal 2nd base, rather than get even a chance of upping his home run or RBI numbers.

That ought to make the point very clear to the douchebag: No one wants him in baseball, it's time for him to leave.

Because they are now banned... He used, by documents, after the ban was put into place... therefore making him a cheater.

Yet there wasn't any Yankees pitcher with the guts to throw at a Boston player and get even.

Part of why Girardi flew out there in a rage was that the Yankees couldn't retaliate because of the warning for standing there while a guy tries to hit you four times.

Yea that was really tough and gritty when Varitek fought A. Rod with full mask and pads on.

Say what you want about A. Rod, he'll be remembered as one of the great (and tragic) talents of the game.
Dempster will be forgotten about 4 seconds after he "retires"*

*- Retirement for players like Dempster comes in the form of an unconditional release or a non-tender.

That's what ARod gets for acting like he should still be playing. I still don't get why the least athletic team sport has such a problem with steroids. Is standing at first base really that taxing?

A-Rods mom everybody.  Actually I'm pretty sure everyone despises him so he'll be remembered as a talented dickbag.  Nothing tragic about being an asshole.

I never played baseball outside of PE, but I'd like you to explain how it's more athletic than football, basketball, soccer, or hockey. It's not.

I was a little nostalgic seeing A-Rod taking one off the elbow guard.

When Barry Bonds was actually playing and running a .500 OBP, the outcry was about his pioneering that elbow armor, and having a stance that put it almost in the strike zone.

Man, that guy could hit.

TheJoe03: Is standing at first base really that taxing?

It's so god damned easy that most people choose not to do it, when even the worst players in the league earn millions per year!

/As a hockey player, I'm not going to wax on poetically about the endurance of baseball players, but it's pretty obvious that it's hard to hit a baseball very well one it's thrown at 80 mph or higher. It's hard to field without making any errors, day in and day out for the entire spring and summer.

Not saying it is more athletic... it is a different kind of athletic. More nuanced. Extreme hand/eye cordnation. The proper balance between speed, power, throwing, hitting, and smarts. The days of John Kruk are over in MLB. It is much more than just standing around.

But my point was about athleticism. I don't deny the talent to play baseball, believe me I know, I suck at baseball. I just don't get why baseball has such a steroid problem, perhaps they are the only sport that cares, it seems that the NFL would have a bigger issue with steroids.

Does having too much white on your shoes help performance on the field? No George Brett was not because it was over turned on hearing of the protest.

Yes I am using the letter of the rule... and thoes that call the juiced players that used before steroids being banned cheaters are not using any rule at all.
