But backing Mubarak totally made sense?  Sometimes it's better not to take a side, especially if both sides are losing bets.

He also cashed the bowl, repacked with schwag, ate all the Doritos, then upper-decked the hall toilet before leaving with my roommate's girlfriend.

America is fearful that Democracy might break out in Egypt.   and that could threaten our stability, since we lost our Democracy 15 or 20 years ago.  we've proven that Democracy is inconvenient for the wealthy 2%.

"what would happen if we cut off the aid is that western terrorism ends in Egypt for the forseeable future, for as far as the eye can see. Western investment comes to a standstill. Egypt becomes a begger client state of the Sunni gulf... Arab.. Arab gulf states. Egypt's future is really damned. And I make that point clear, it's just not about the aid, it's about the relationship. We're the strongest nation on Earth, everybody that sides with us tends to do better than people than we oppose. So I would play to the best interest of the military, stop this before it gets out of hand. We can't support where you are taking Egypt. And I'd tell the Brotherhood, forget about the condition of Morsi being put back in as president before you have a new dialog. I would be firm with the military and the Brotherhood, we do have a lot of influence. If American business stops investing in Egypt and American tourists stop going to Egypt their economy is going to be in ruins. There is a lot at steak here for us and them. If you had a winner-loser list from a failed state in Egypt, the Egyption people and the American people would be on the loser list."

There's a metric ton of derp in there.

Id tell you my Obama joke but the NSA already heard it.

2013-08-18 06:02:30 PM
Aside from his Obama comments, he is kinda right in that the military is taking a stance that is much too harsh. 90% of the country are Muslims, so there would be no way to have a democracy without their say, I think the mistake they made in the past was writing the constitution after elections instead of before.

From what I've heard there really isn't much Obama can do, and the sentiment from the Egyptian people seems to be "leave us alone so we can deal with this mess".

He's gonna get primaried by a couple of living colostomy bags, so he's got to turn the derp up to potatoe asap to prove his bona fides to his constituency of theocratic nimrods. I wish someone would flood his district with Cheerwine and drown the lot of them.

FTFA: The Brotherhood is a "force" in the streets, he said, but "if you had new elections the Brotherhood would get creamed."

I'm confused. Wasn't the problem that the Brotherhood did win the last election, and their guy basically decided to become dictator-lite? Why, exactly, would they suddenly "get creamed"?

It seems like only yesterday that the neocons were smearing everyone that wasn't on board for turning the middle east upside down as an "ISOLATIONIST".

good times!

2013-08-18 06:11:58 PM
No matter what Obama does the repubs will be against it, so honestly, who cares what they think? I thought the line about the Muslim Brotherhood losing big time in a new election was pretty laughable, though. If there;s anything we've learned about the Middle East in the past forty years or so, it's that if you give a Muslim the right to vote, the first thing he will vote for is to strip himself of his voting rights and hand the country over to a theocracy. It happened in Algeria, it happened in Iran, it happened in Gaza, it happened in Egypt, it's happening right now in Tunisia and Libya and the handwriting is on the wall for Iraq and Afghanistan. It hasn't happened in Turkey because the Turkish military comes down on like a ton of bricks whenever someone tries to pull that stunt and it hasn't happened in Indonesia largely because traditional Javanese culture is as strong if not stronger than the more recent Muslim overlay. Creating a genuine democracy in an Arab state is probably what it would have been like if you suddenly gave a medieval serf voting rights: he'd look around in a panic and then gratefully hand power back to the nearest nobleman or priest.

That going dictator-lite thing made him rather unpopular. Hence the getting creamed.

Morsi only won the with 52%  of the votes, and there were a lot of moderate Muslims who voted for him because he ran as a centrist.  All those moderate Muslims turned on him when he started when he focused solely on implementing Muslim law, ignoring the minority, ignoring the economy, and slowly implementing dictator-like policies.  The people weren't afraid that if new elections were held he may have won, they were afraid there weren't going to be new elections at all.

2013-08-18 06:17:18 PM
This whole Egypt thing is really confusing to the "Real Americans" I have on my Facebook.

At first they were for Morsi, saying how dare the military and anti-Morsi supporters rise up and dispose the democratically elected president because that un-American. But then that quickly changed when they replaced the name Morsi with Obama and said the Egyptians had the right idea and the military should help get rid of Obama because that's the American way. But now they are on Morsi side because his supporters are being shot at by the military. Next week I'm sure this will change yet again when it's reveled that a lot of the Morsi supports are now being helped out by al-Queda.

No, the libertarian wing of the GOP will tell you that Firefly was cancelled because market forces and besides, management can do whatever it wants just because.

If you give just about anyone not of white european descent the first thing the do is vote to get rid of their right to vote. It has happened time after time.

Colored people are stupid peasants.
