Everyone is a pretty nice guy after a case and a half of merlot...

//he was a nice guy sober too...

I love it when there's a movie that I've seen countless times, and something reminds me that I'm about ready to see it again.

The guy was super strong (except for his back problems late in life) and weighed over 500 pounds... I wonder how that would even work. I think he'd have to worry a little about breaking women's hips or something.

But, perhaps, he knew the limits...

Got to see Princess Bride at  http://cinespia.org/ (movies in the Hollywood graveyard).  Felt like a giant festival given the amount of people they stuffed in there.  Best one I've been to.

The "as you wish" = "I love you" thing isn't really coded. It is explicitly stated in the script, in Falk's narration.

That movie is one of my favorites... plus it must be ranked up there in the number of memes that it has generated.

I did not catch the Spinal Tap easter egg in all the times I saw it.  But that is pretty sweet.

And Andre the Giant just rocked.  I didn't know he didn't do some of his stunts.

Guntram Shatterhand: And Andre the Giant just rocked.  I didn't know he didn't do some of his stunts.

Billy Crystal says that he first met Andre at the hotel where he was passed out drunk on the floor of the lobby.  He was just a gigantic obstacle.

FEZZIK: Well, I haven't fought just one person for so long. I've been specializing in groups. Battling gangs for local charities, that kind of thing.

Am I the only one who hears Andre the Giant suddenly flip into a cockney accent at the end of this line?

I can never tell if it's just me, last minute ADR, or if he was really trying to do it.

I saw this in the theater when it came out.  I don't understand how I instantly recognized Fred Savage if he wasn't in the Wonder Years at that point.

Fuzzy memory?

Not sure if it was true or not, but they said they found a copy of The Princess Bride in Andre's VHS player when he died. It was the one thing he was most proud of.

11. Rob Reiner hasn't directed anything worth a crap in 20 years.

He had a great run, then directed 'North" and he still hasn't recovered from it.

1992 A Few Good Men
1990 Misery
1989 When Harry Met Sally...
1987 The Princess Bride
1986 Stand by Me
1985 The Sure Thing
1984 This Is Spinal Tap

As a child, my wife and her family lived in the same Tulsa, OK apartment complex as Andre. The kids used to wait in the courtyard for Andre to come out and play. The Gentle Giant loved playing with the kids.

During the same time period, Andre did a TV interview with a Tulsa reporter. The woman was tiny, weighing no more than ninety pounds. The way the interview was shot, it looked like she was standing on a ladder because she was at eye level with the big man. At the conclusion of the interview, the camera pulled back to reveal that the reporter was in fact sitting in Andre's outstretched right hand.

What about Ghosts of Mississippi and The American President?  I didn't personally enjoy The Bucket List, but many people did.

The actor who plays Count Tyrone Rugen, the six-fingered man, really is a member of British nobility.

He had every reason to be proud.  He was brilliant in the movie.  Hell, everyone was brilliant.

When I discovered my wife had not seen Princess Pride, I immediately went out and rented it (this was back in Blockbuster days).  Her response after seeing it.  "It was ok."   Ok?  WTF!  Merely "ok"?  I should have realized at that very moment that our marriage would not last.

My two sons, 5 and 3, love this movie.   They call it "the Giant and the Pirate" and run around quoting the film.  The 3-year old especially loves saying "Mah-wage!"

And a really crappy one at that.... Headline sucked, TFA was pretty 'Meh', which is kind of a letdown, since The Princess Bride and Rob Reiner are both so damn awesome.

Yes, he was nice to the point that he had a bunch of hangers-on who abused his generosity and just hung out with him because he liked to pick up the check. Poor guy, couldn't have been that easy growing up. Sure, he was big, but I bet the kids were still pricks.
