WTF is an "unmarked crosswalk"? If there's no markings, it can't be a crosswalk.

I assume they mean an intersection with no pretty paint lines for pedestrians. Peds have the right of way (but should always, ALWAYS respect the physics of the situation).

Most states define crosswalks as whenever the sidewalk leads to the street. The pretty lines are really just to make it obvious for drivers that "hey people are going to be walking here"

I've been thinking about putting my GoPro on my bike and filming my commute. After about a week or two I could probably splice together some Youtube videos of "What not to do as a pedestrian" What not to do as a driver" and "What not to do as a cyclist" Of course, there will be yakkity sax.

Car, bike, feet... we're all assholes.

-I don't remember who

Ever notice scooter riders and motorcyclists don't pull the stupid shiat bike riders do?

You mean like zipping through slower traffic and changing lanes at 70mph? Noooooo...not at all!

*eyeroll*

To be fair, that's DIFFERENT stupid shiat. : )

But if they're not hitting your car, or holding you up, why do you care what motorcycles do? I can see getting annoyed that a bicycle is forcing you to do 15 in a 35, but every motorcycle on the road means you get where you're going sooner. Why the hate? Is it just that you're angry about not being "first"?

reaperducer: A couple of weeks ago one of the local cyclists learned his lesson the hard way.

I was legally crossing the street with the signal in the middle of a crowd of about 20 people when a cyclist decided to blow the red light.  I guess he was used to people in crosswalks getting out of his way.  Most everyone did.  Except for me.

I should mention that I'm enormous.  In situations like this physics usually works in my favor.

He ricocheted off of me like one of those ragdoll apps and skidded across two lanes of traffic on his Urban Outfitters fake messenger bag.  If he had a laptop in there, he doesn't anymore.  I wasn't hurt at all.  I think he was mostly OK, except for butthurt and road rash.  I could hear him screaming four-letter words at me as I continued walking across the street.

I can only hope he at least starts slowing down at traffic lights now.

Unless you are 400-500 lbs or the cyclists was moving under 10 mph that never happened. A cyclist (blowing a red) at full speed will hit you harder than an NFL linebacker since they're moving 20-25 mph

Segway riders, rollerbladers, pedestrians, cyclists and motorists.  Know what they all have in common?  People.  People are assholes.

Cyclists are just assholes who move a faster than a pedestrian yet lack the protection of a steel cage.  None of it matters when you get shot for being an asshole.

Gainesville is full of aloof bicycle riders that make left turns across traffic, don't stop at stop signs or red lights, weave in and out of traffic, etc. And if you think that's bad, you should see what the people in motor vehicles do. Motorcycleists are by far the most well behaved, courtesy riders.

ugh, this is an everyday nightmare here in Austin.

It's like a on-going "war" between the bike riders and cars. Both are wrong, but they are too busy pointing fingers at each other to settle it.

Sure, it's just more likely to be fatal when you're dealing with an asshole with a car.
