(Daily Mail)   Moyes is already whining like SAF, Wenger has spent £80 on a wheelie bin and stale chips, and the Special One is already stirring the pot. Colour me chuffed, it's the start of the 2013/14 English Premier League season   (dailymail.co.uk) divider line 728

Hey!  There's a goal in the West Brom/Southampton game.  Southampton leads 1-0

HaywoodJablonski: SomebodyElsesShoes: LucklessWonder: Lord Jubjub: At this rate, you might be able to play poker with all of the cards issued in the Arsenal/Villa game

Who's the ref?

Anthony Taylor, he completely farked up a game last year between West Ham and Everton.  At one point West Ham got a penalty call (a make up for an earlier shiatty call), and even the West Ham fans booed the decision.

http://www.worldfootball.net/referees/eng-premier-league-2012-2013/1/

Last year he was rated 4th best (I think) he was light on yellows but tied for the lead in reds. Looks like he has the lead in both so far!

He's good generally, he just has these shiat games sometimes.

Wenger's gonna get sacked.

High time, Arsenal won't go down like Forest did under Clough, but not being in the CL will have a similar effect.

Lord Jubjub: I believe that NBC will broadcast the late game every week.  Nice to see soccer make a consistent appearance to a wide audience.

Almost every week at least. I'm sure there will be a few weeks where they have something like golf to show instead.

Poor Sagna, that looks like it hurt badly.

I've done that before Sagna, don't try to get up. That shiat hurts like hell.

That looked painful.  That's how you wind up in a wheelchair for life.

Sagna in a heap.

On the bright side, he can probably give himself a blowjob whenever he wants now.

I guess we really can't complain, we lost to the team that was in second place in the league this morning.

Additional silver lining: Podolski didn't make a single mistake.

I mean, Wenger will point to the ref...but he's gonna catch stick for this.  Sort of poetic justice; he should've been as aggressive as S***s.

Greg Howard at Deadspin said it best:

A couple of months ago, I was in my apartment and had to take a shiat. So I did; it was wet. As soon as I started, though, I realized there was no toilet paper. I'd recently bought a huge pack, but I have two roommates, and one has a girlfriend who's over a lot, so we run through the paper pretty quickly. I looked in the closet, and of course there was no toilet paper there, either. That's because my other roommate is passive-aggressive, and doesn't like me that much, and so even though he's a neat freak, he fights through his borderline OCD to make life harder for me in the apartment. Washes only his dishes even though everyone washes his, doesn't take out the trash much even though he cooks every night, and so on. You know him, even if you don't know him. So I waddled down to the bodega on the corner, to buy some toilet paper. My ass was clenched, but I was still petrified. I've got a sensitive bum, so I bought the good toilet paper. Charmin. One roll, because now I'm feeling passive-aggressive. It was like three bucks.

I spent more money on that roll of toilet paper than Arsenal have in the transfer market all summer.

Arsenal fans could live with that if the team was great. But Arsenal aren't a great team. They finished fourth last year, after a historic unbeaten streak, to overtake their hated rivals Tottenham and qualify for the Champions League. This summer, manager Arsène Wenger and Arsenal's front office claimed to have over £70 million in the bank to spend on strengthening the squad. They've offloaded no less than 22 players, and so far, have only signed one, Yaya Sanogo. He was free. He wasn't even supposed to see much time this year, but he likely will.

Gunners have a dangerously thin, dangerously mediocre team. They have for years, but we think this year is finally the breaking point, when they'll be passed over for a Champions League spot and heads will roll. They've been linked with farking everyone, and haven't been able to sign a single great player yet. If they don't add real quality in the next two weeks, Arsenal are done. That said, look for winger Theo Walcott and Olivier Giroud to both score 15 or more goals this season. It still won't be enough.

Would have been interesting to see if he kept going what his time would have been.  I can't believe that the US guy came from so far back to get third.

As a Real fan who's goddamn tired of seeing them buy people who they bench (nope, I don't want Bale, if you're asking, we already have a midfield logjam) , it's quite bewildering to see the flip-side: a team who links itself to everyone yet buys no one.
They really need to have a guy to tell Wenger that it's fine to only link to a few people, but to try his damnedest to buy them, not link to everyone that passes by and end up empty.

The thing that gets me is:  They agree to personal terms with Higuain...but say nothing to Real.  No.  thing.  Then Real let Higuain go to Napoli for a price that's less than Arsenal are willing to pay for Suarez.

Ridiculous; Wenger has to go now.

Pretty much, Adubs86. Arsenal boasted of a large warchest at the beginning of the summer, then couldn't close any of the deals. Not one. Arsene seems to believe that Arsenal is still as respected today as they were 10 years ago, when they were a top, top team. That hasn't been the case for several years now. Arsenal will have to overspend on top players until they have recent silverware to point to. Because players don't consider Arsenal to be title contenders. And they're right.

Pretty much this. I think Wenger's still trying to ride the success they had with Henry to make players join, when he doesn't have a single recent trophy to point to.

Champions League football can only do so much to attract people when you aren't even sure you can come back next year and you're pretty sure you won't get far in the CL anyway.

Yeah, I didn't realize just how thin Arsenal is right now until I glanced at their current roster, and nearly a third of it seems to full of perpetually injured players (completely forgot Diaby is even still around, for one).

You've summed it up perfectly

2013-08-17 12:39:16 PM
Arsenal need another Dein. Somebody to handle transfers. Wenger may be smart, but he's apparently not smart enough to evolve with the game. IT.HAS.CHANGED. You can't expect to pilfer league one and come up with an Henry every 2 years. It's just not happening. If Arsenal piss about and let Ox, Wilshere, etc get fed up and leave, Wenger will have destroyed his legacy whilst wasting 10 years+ of Arsenal fan's time and money. Something has to give this year, and I hope it's Kroenke out, Stan in, Wenger out, a new hungry coach in.
