Will it still help if I do crosswords and listen to Mozart on my 26 minute commute?

The All-Powerful Atheismo: Will it still help if I do crosswords and listen to Mozart on my 26 minute commute?

Came here to make slightly funnier 26 minute comment. Leaving satisfied.

Only people who bought into the media hype regarding classical music believe that. Anyone who paid attention to the study itself realized otherwise.

Speaking of studies:

In a recent study (paywall), he found that rats produced different brain-altering chemicals based on environmental factors. He thinks that our brains change their behavior (like "a railway switching yard") based on environmental factors to help us conserve energy during winter.
Grain of salt and all that.

Which is better, Sudoku or sit-ups? Baby Mozart or a nice tan?
I don't suppose anyone thought to investigate the cognitive effects of reading whole books with actual content.

Oh, so you mean giving your body vitamin D rather than keeping it in a state of near-rickets is better for your thinkin' organ? And that same organ full of delicate capillaries benefits more from improved blood flow than lazing about listening to music, no matter how "sophisticated" it may be?

That must be Snookie and company on the beach at Seaside Heights (before Snook became a Mom).  I'm going there Sunday through Thursday with my folks.  First time back there since Hurricane Sandy.

"A recent study found that female orgasms trigger an increase in blood flow to all regions of the brain, improving overall cognitive performance."

So Subby's mom may not just be a slut for slut's sake.

Well, duh?

The whole "Mozart makes your kid smart!" thing is ridiculous.

Stimuli are good for development.  Again, duh.

I love the last bit of the article and would love to be a part of that.

In the interest of science, of course.

I listen to Mozart, but not because I think it makes me smarter...I just really enjoy classical music...as well as almost every other kind of music. My kids listen to what I listen to because I can't stand those dumb kid songs- my oldest was humming "I Am the Doctor" the other day (she loves Doctor Who). She also goes to dance, and both of my kids go outside to play everyday that it's nice out.

Nothing will make them into geniuses...but who really cares about that?

Mostly on topic rant:
A lot of time people stereotype weightlifting folk, bodybuilders especially as dumb. Despite this, there are tons of examples of successful muscle bound people who have made some pretty 'smart' achievements. Frank Zane has a masters in Experimental Psychology and is nicknamed "the Chemist" for his bachelor's of science degree. Dolph Lungren has a Master's in Chemical Engineering. Arnold is supposed to have a 160 IQ and was the governor of the US's economically largest state. Even the often mocked Ronnie Coleman graduated cum-laude with a Bachelor of Science in accounting.

/end semi-relevant rant
//tanning still stupid, sun's got it covered

I believe it! It's all about getting the "rush" from working out which makes the brain happy and alive and stuff.

Ok, I could really go all psychological and physicological-jargon-y on yall, but I will spare you. Besides, I finished my undergrad thesis on something very similar to this back in '05.
