Wait...  That doesn't make any sense at all. Surely, the RNC cannot hold two contradictory positions at once, can they?

The GOP should just go all in and have debates held only on fox news and get rush limbaugh to be the moderator.

2013-08-16 01:00:51 PM
So, millions of viewers won't be able to see the debates on two channels? Have they thought their cunning plan through?

2013-08-16 01:02:41 PM
We'll see if this really happens.

I anticipate CNN and NBC scheduling debates and getting fringe candidates to do it and the front runners will have to choose between following this rule and giving their opponents all that free publicity.

The ban on CNN and NBC extends to their Spanish-language sibling networks, CNN en Espanol and Telemundo, according to RNC aides. That leaves the RNC with only one major Spanish-language broadcaster, Univision, to partner with on officially-sanctioned debates.

How's that Latino outreach thing working out for you?

I'm still amazed at the levels of contempt the GOP is showing towards free speech. Near as I can figure, the republicans are upset because of a mini series that isn't even made yet might possibly be get made by fox and shown on/by another network and could say one or two nice things about Hillary Clinton....but we don't know yet because nobody's written a gotdamn script for It yet.

Aren't these just the primary debates? Or is the RNC really threatening to shoot themselves in the feet, shins, thighs, genitals, stomach, chest, hands, arms, elbows, and face by letting the librulest candidate EVAR just speak to the nation for 90 minutes uninterrupted?

I think it would be awesome! Imagine the flaming wreckage it would create. The destruction of the republican hopes for the white house would be almost secondary to the vicious purge that would follow the loss of yet another presidential election race.

Prediction: they'll then complain that CNN/NBC are in violation of federal election law by not giving equal time and demand that their candidate get 90 minutes uninterrupted, also.

Best way to avoid the "Please proceed" moment is not to engage your opponent directly, after all.

perhaps NBC and CNN should just get actors to play any candidates who decide to boycott, and they can debate any crazed gadfly libertarians who show up.

I mean - it's a really far-fetched idea, one that would never happen on a major news network.

/I mean - except on FOX News

I would recommend replacing the GOP candidates with empty chairs, but that might actually make them look better.

The quest to be seen as the most ideologically pure conservative would result in a bloodbath.
And I'm not saying that like it would be a bad thing.

I'm not sure that a purge is possible anymore.  The tea party and the extreme right have consumed the majority of the Republican party.  The only purge has been of moderate Republicans, and now they're starting to go after non-Tea Party Republicans like McConnell, Cornyn, Alexander, and Graham.  Maybe if the Tea Partiers get to run their dream candidate in 2016 (Paul, or perhaps Santorum) and that person gets crushed, then the party might begin to swing back to center, but it seems increasingly unlikely.

If there's one thing Stalin taught the republicans it's that you can always find someone to blame...and then send to a gulag afterwards. It's weird how much of the republican party resembles the Marxists in the desire for rigid ideological purity and conformity.
