It sounds like it was the corpse's fault for driving without a head or hands. Open and shut case.

If it was a convertible, it would be a headless body in a topless car.

The Mercury Sable I dumped into the river around 2004 contained a body that HAD its hands and its head, so this one's not mine.

I wouldn't want to be caught dead in a Mercury Sable.

The guy has been missing for nearly 10 years.  There's only one reason why he'd be lacking a head and hands...to make identification more difficult.  He likely was killed and the killer will get away with it (because any physical evidence is likely gone).  I feel badly for the family but at least now they'll have some closure (though a lot of questions).

Or not- 0.10$ a bottle deposit refund adds up. If it's a recreational activity that puts cash in your hands then it's a win/win.

how many full of water can you haul out on one dive?  how much did it cost to refill your tanks and drive their in your car using gas?

2013-08-16 01:59:18 PM
The car had a license plate that expired in 2004. The vehicle was possibly tied to a missing person from a neighboring community.
If you have the tag number, and now you can cross reference the VIN number, how come you can't verify the owner(s) of the car and if anyone they knew was missing, before going to press.

Bottle diving is a common activity. The old trash dumping spots are littered with antique bottles. Shipwrecks also decay and leave bottles and artifacts behind.

{sigh} This is where you get it all wrong. The body is missing head and hands, so it can't be a suicide. In cases like this, you have to use words such as "gang related", "drugs", and "deal gone bad" so no one gets worked up, see?

Missing Allen Park man's ID found with more body parts in Detroit River

Wyandotte - A dive team has recovered more body parts - including a skull - from the Detroit River on Friday during their search for the rest of the remains of a decomposed body first found Thursday with no head or hands in a car that may have been submerged for nine years, authorities said.
The Downriver Search and Recovery Team also found the identification of Thomas Lange, a 30-year-old Allen Park man missing since 2003. In addition to the skull, the team found some long bones, which may have been from an arm, said Wyandotte Police Inspector James Pouliot.
On Thursday, the team found a Mercury Sable near BASF Waterfront Park in Wyandotte. The headless and handless body of a large male was inside. The feet were also detached, one found near the shoreline, the other inside the vehicle on the rear floorboard. The clothing also is similar to what Lange was last observed wearing, Police Chief David Grant said in a release Friday.
The body, which has not yet been identified, was in a car with a license plate that expired in 2004. The vehicle was registered to the mother of Thomas Lange.
"With (the vehicle) registered to mom, him being missing, a larger male - if you were to make an inference you could put two and two together," Pouliot said.
The Wayne County Medical Examiner's Office is performing an autopsy on the body Friday to identify it and determine a cause of death. The additional found body parts are being forwarded to the office Friday afternoon. If the office is unable to confirm the body's identity, authorities will send DNA to a lab in north Texas for testing, Pouliot said. Lange's family will be swabbed for DNA samples.
According to a report on the NamUs missing persons database, Thomas Lange was last seen Dec. 30, 2003, after leaving the Wheat & Rye Steak House on Allen Road around 11:30 p.m. before heading to a grocery store to buy diapers for his son.
A recreational diver looking for bottles first located the vehicle and notified police on Thursday, said Wyandotte Fire Capt. Mike Brandt. Within minutes, the dive team located the vehicle, which had definitely had been in the water for a while, he said.
It was the second body Wyandotte police have found inside a vehicle in the river. On July 16, authorities pulled a red truck from about 22 feet of water, not far off the shore from Bishop Park near Oak and Biddle, in what the police chief called a suicide.
Wyandotte residents Amber Sorich and Andrea Aguilera said they were disturbed when they heard about the car and came to the park in hopes of finding out more.
"It's so shocking because this is such a nice, family-oriented area," Sorich said. "People come here all the time with their kids."
Wayndotte and Lincoln Park police departments are continuing to investigate.

Unless the bad guys are rolling headless corpses through the park during the day while the kids are playing, I don't think there is much of problem for the families.

My Ex decided to but a Mercury Topaz 4WD in 1987, or thereabouts. I told her it was a POS, but...No, she had to have it. It suicided crossing a busy street by dropping the transformer. She told me to leave the scene 'cause her girl friends would help her...I left. That, and many more stupid decisions, were enuf for me. Detrout would be too good for her.
