Can the court direct bill the people of his district for the costs incurred by his asshattery?

Can I countersue him for allowing himself to exist?

Apparently, he doesn't know that just because you have insurance coverage on something doesn't mean you have to use it.  I bet he crashes his car every time he gets in it.

He can always decline that insurance and buy his own without that evil coverage.

"I see abortion-inducing drugs as intrinsically evil, and I cannot in good conscience preach one thing to my kids and then just go with the flow on our insurance,"

I see grandstanding, fat-assed, attention whore politicians who care more about their own bank accounts than their constituents or their country as "intrinsically evil."  What options do you recommend for me, Mr. Wieland?

2013-08-15 01:54:14 PM
Changing federal laws to conform to your personal beliefs seems just like the type of small government solution this country is sorely lacking.

"I see abortion-inducing drugs as intrinsically evil, and I cannot in good conscience preach one thing to my kids and then just go with the flow on our insurance," Wieland remarked. "This is a moral conundrum for me. Do I just cancel the coverage and put my family at risk? I don't believe in what the government is doing."

"According to a report from the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, Wieland had been able to opt out of contraceptive coverage in previous years but was recently notified that it had become a requirement in the state plan, which he qualifies for as a member of the Legislature. "

Then opt out of being in the Legislature. You're not doing anybody any good there anyway.

If his daughters are of legal age, they would do well to be extremely interested in this sack of shiat's lawsuit since he is effectively depriving them of their choice due to his personal religious beliefs.

2013-08-15 02:07:55 PM
He could also arrange so his daughters always date boys of his, um, poundage -- they'd never have any desire for sex.

So, do they force him to buy contraceptive pills? When I was single, my insurance had coverage sections for pregnancy and birth. That didn't force me to grow a set of ovaries and a uterus, I simply didn't use that coverage.

How farking hard is it to just not buy something you don't like anyhow?

Doesn't it specify a "personal" exemption?  So realistically he's seeking exemption from the law under a provision that is no longer there, but not necessary seeking to remove contraception coverage from the healthcare law in its entirety?

Regardless he's a grandstanding piece of crap but I'm not sure if his lawsuit intends to modify the law entirely to fark everyone over, or only his own personal circumstances.

So if they are looking for a way to get back at daddy for always working late, caring about his political career more than he ever did about them, not buying them a pony or not letting them go on that ski trip when they were 16.... they now know how to go about it. That thanksgiving break when one of them brings their (hopefully black or latino) boyfriend with whom they share an apartment in college is gonna be awesome.

If you are having sex outside of wedlock you are not a good catholic. Sorry to break it to you. the church is pretty clear on this point.

Catholicism defines chastity as the virtue that moderates the sexual appetite. Unmarried Catholics express chastity through. Sexual intercourse within marriage is considered chaste when it retains the twofold significance of union and procreation.

I had a weird conversation with an older coworker. Now with Obamacare, his daughter can stay on his health insurance, which is quite good, until she's 26, and because he has other children still in highschool and is on a family plan, she's essentially automatically covered, but he wants to kick her off his health insurance because she's getting married and he thinks that her fiance/husband should now start taking care of her. Even though it costs nothing additional to him to keep her on his plan, would give her better coverage, and help them out financially. He and I get along real well most of the time, but I thought this was really just mean.

I don't really get the mindset of a lot of people when it comes to some things.

Interesting, this is from his health insurance carrier.

Contraceptives are defined as prescription drugs and devices approved by the FDA for use as a contraceptive. Coverage is not required for drugs and devices that are intended to induce abortion."

Near as I can figure, Catholics just lie about sex and pick and choose what rules they want to follow at the time. Then they go to confession, feel guilty for a while, and start a cycle of denial and repression that brews some very kinky fetishes later in life.

I have met some VERY devout Catholics who are devoted BDSM and/or swinger types and spend most of their lives being guilty while getting off.

"This is a moral conundrum for me. Do I just cancel the coverage and put my family at risk? I don't believe in what the government is doing."

Apart from the fact he doesn't know the difference between contraception and abortion---If he's suing to have the entire mandate removed for all familes because he doesn't want to subsidize it, that at least makes a kind of sense---but if he's suing only for a personal exemption, he just wants coverage nullified for his family. But coverage doesn't imply usage (as others have pointed out), and his family's usage habits won't change anyway. So what does the mandate have to do with it at all? He could just cancel the coverage and buy his own Catholic-approved insurance, like other people sometimes do.

I don't see the problem.  Can't he just opt-out of his insurance and pay the penalty?  Is any price really too high, when your principles are at stake?

Zeb Hesselgresser: dr_blasto: So, do they force him to buy contraceptive pills? When I was single, my insurance had coverage sections for pregnancy and birth. That didn't force me to grow a set of ovaries and a uterus, I simply didn't use that coverage.

How farking hard is it to just not buy something you don't like anyhow?

So you don't understand what coverage mandates are?

His insurance company is required to include coverage for birth control pills.  He is not required to buy the pills.  "Coverage mandate" does NOT mean that the person who purchases the insurance is actually required to use every service and prescription that is covered.

We can follow up with a Catholic litmus test that most "real" Catholics fail.

1) Do you believe that Adam and Eve were actual people that gave us actual "original sin?"

2) At Communion, are you symbolically or literally eating Jesus' body and blood?

Near as I can figure, Catholics just lie about sex and pick and choose what rules they want to follow at the time. Then they go to confession, feel guilty for a while, and start a cycle of denial and repression that brews some very kinky fetishes later in life.

I have met some VERY devout Catholics who are devoted BDSM and/or swinger types and spend most of their lives being guilty while getting off.

1. The New Testament is, essentially, telling its followers "ignore these laws, but keep these OTHER laws". The foundational document already blows away half the old Law (if not more), while also claiming a heritage from it. Picking and choosing was baked in from the jump.
2. Nothing in either testament says you can't spank each other. Neither one even mentions forbidden sexual acts (apart from tortured readings of the story of Onan and Tamar), only forbidden partners.

He's attempting the same magic incantation "Sovereign Citizens" try to get out of paying taxes by intentionally misunderstanding something.  Since the US government can't establish a religion, he'll claim something is against his religion therefore the government must not mandate it.  This is completely fantastical thinking, as the first amendment does not confer supremacy of religious dictates, and in fact makes any such arguments preposterous.  But it plays well with the dumbs in his district, so off he derps.

FTA: "In July I got a letter saying that opting out was no longer an option for me, and it really kind of upset me because I'm a devout Catholic,"

Umm, here is a thought.  You can opt out still by not using birth control.  Seriously, no where does this say that your daughters have to use birth control.  It just gives them the option.  Now if they are not as devout a Catholic as you and want to use it, it's their choice.  You can also see this as a test of their faith.  If they are really faithful to the Catholic religion, this type of "temptation" will not even faze their belief.  So let them have the choice.  It will separate the "real" Catholics from the Catholic-lites.

I'm looking forward to all three of his daughters getting knocked up before finishing school.
