India and Pakistan are shooting at each other all the time.  Fortunately they both have nuclear weapons, so it never goes very far.

Pretty much this. Let them fight it out. Don't get involved. Quite frankly, a nuke would be an improvement in some of the areas they fight in.

seems more likely that india and china are headed toward war, or at least some sort of cold war situation.

Meh. Let them. They both have spare population that a little nuking could correct. Heck they could come out better for it in the end. Worked for Japan.

There are parts of India that would actually look a lot better if hit with a nuclear weapon.

If the first nuke that goes off there grazes one American or Russian, India and Pakistan will be glass soon after.

/At least that's one way to solve the overcrowding problem: Take out a fifth of the world's population!

Oh fark.  At least there's not any unrest in the middle east cause that could really tip ahit towards Armageddon.

Have you not noticed how flat-out WEIRD Japan got after the bombs? You really want 10 times as many people exposed to that? You really want Bollywood Tentacle Porn?

Wait, of course you do. I do. Nevermind, bring on the nukin'!

Yeah, but ideologically/politically, China is the USSR and economically, India is the USSR, so I don't know who to root for.

No.  There will be no full out war.  Pakistan would be annihilated by India and they know it.

Which is why we should be offering neutron bombs with easy, same-day financing.  Bad credit?  No problem!

I'd like to point out, if it hasn't been done so already, that you can pull this headline out 3-4 time each decade and it would be accurate.  This conflict has been there since the partition.

I don't think so.  We're not all that eager to nuke anyone without reason, and we'd just look like assholes if we did.

Granted, whomever launches first will be sanctioned into starvation, and its citizens across the globe will be the new untouchables.  And, the whole world will support treating them as subhuman since it will be ridiculously easy to do so.

They had a little border dispute-war in 1999 that didn't go nuclear, so it's unlikely that another one would.

Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif should just execute the military leaders who are not following his commands. (If he can.)
Find some loyal soldiers, promise them immediate promotions, then systematically kill the leaders and replace them in one evening.
India would see that as an appeasement.

So much THIS.  While I have no great love for Pakistan's gov't, we have made a big enough mess in the region and this is a good time for the USA to STFU and MYOB.  In this situation, we again have tribal issues masquarading as real problems between two gov't.

Yea, India today is the more stable of the two, but what about in 25 years?  Let them figure it out unless they both come to us and ASK for help in solving their problems peacefully.  Then let the UN handle it.

Both nations developed nuclear arms out of a sense of self-defense.  They're not likely to use them except in case of a catastrophic turn of events threaten their very existence.  Since both sides just want to ensure their own survival, neither side is likely to use their weapons first.

MAD made simple.

Indian analysts remain convinced that Pakistan uses such shelling to provide cover for jihadi militants crossing the border to attack installations in India-administered Kashmir.

I wasn't aware that a single bomb the size of Little Boy would be sufficient to kill 'a fifth of the world's population'.

I've long thought India and Pakistan would end up in a nuclear war.

There is too much crazy in Pakistan; they will eventually end up nuking India and claiming it was some rogue element. India won't sit on their hands like they did in the Mumbai shootings, and what will start as a limited nuclear exchange will quickly escalate into all out nuclear annihilation.

It's only a matter of time.

Amount of land isn't the problem on a global level. It's food, other resources, and the environmental costs of the growing population.
