No one should care what either clown does

2013-08-15 12:48:49 PM
I don't know whether or not his antics were racist or otherwise especially offensive, but either way I'm willing to bet he's not the slightest bit amusing.

2013-08-15 12:48:50 PM
I clearly submitted this with a better headline.

Texas congressman invites Obama rodeo clown to attend Texas' biggest rodeo. Rodeo says no thanks, there are enough clowns in Texas already

2013-08-15 12:49:23 PM
I care what one of the clowns does, since he gets a congressional vote. I missed the time when we made such people the village idiot and not politicians.

It just goes to show Texas will take anything that anybody else will reject.

The Post did a fascinating piece on Steve Stockman a while back...apparently he was a Congressman once before, in the early 90's until he opened his mouth and revealed what a bat-shiat loon he really was and voters sent him packing/  Now he's seen as solidly in the Mainstream of GOP poltical thought and a party leader....

Yet another data point in the "republicans elect their assholes" book.

2013-08-15 12:54:01 PM
Ten bucks you could get a Texas audience to yell to the bull to "get that n*****."

Texass!

2013-08-15 12:54:55 PM
Steve Stockman sounds like a gay porn name.  That clown is going to be surprised when he rolls up to a gay rodeo and Steve Stockman is standing there with Buck Hard and Clint Stud.

2013-08-15 12:58:53 PM
we should never disrespect our president.

2013-08-15 12:59:15 PM
I don't care much about the rodeo clown. I care more about the announcer getting the audience ready to see the clown/Obama trampled.

The GOP really has their panties in a twist over this and for the wrong reason.

GOP: ZOMG look at what that clown did! It must piss off the libs!
The Libs: Meh. Stupid, but we expect that behavior from you.
GOP: See?! We told you they were mad at the clown!
The Libs: Yeah, whatever.
GOP: And why hasn't Obama said anything about this? He should stick his nose in this like he did Treyvon Martin so we can get all outraged when he says something!

I love how "it will annoy liberals" has become a prime motivation for actions on the right, even though the point usually turns out not to create liberal outrage but to gain support from rightwingers who think sticking it to the liberals is brave enough goal in itself.

it's been a few days now & the Conservatives are claiming that the Liberals still upset about the clown.

I rolled my eyes when I first saw the story. That was my entire reaction. I don't know if it's possible to have a less meaningful story become a "thing".

It's the only thing the GOP can do anymore that can be interpreted by anyone as a positive. It's all they've got left.

You're assuming he'd be a village idiot in his district.

blog.chron.com

He's more middle-of-the-road in terms of his district.

2013-08-15 01:10:55 PM
Wow, this is great! Thank you, Texas, for taking the focus on this idiot away from my state! And you did it on your own!

/As the article implied, I think every Missouri politician, Democrat or Republican, said basically that this guy was a douche. Oh, and the clown too.

The problem wasn't that there was a clown and an announcer with a dog whistle poking fun at the president. We expect that from the common clay of the west. The problem was that it was at a state government sponsored event at a farking state fair.

/go be bigoted douchebags  on your own dime morons

RIP, Molly Ivins:

That's how we got Rep. Steve Stockman, our proudest contribution to the national Knot-Head Quotient, in the first place. Normal voters stayed home, the Christian right and its disciplined troops turned out in force, and whammo, we sent a hopeless dingbat off to Congress. I'm not saying that all candidates supported by the Christian right are hopeless dingbats: Stockman is special. For those of you who may have forgotten, Stockman is the glorious gun nut, militia supporter and Polluters' Best Friend who is facing a complaint to the Federal Election Commission from the 1994 campaign and will almost surely draw another this time. In '94, he took $80,000 from the Suarez Corp. of Ohio, which was out to get incumbent Jack Brooks. Stockman, according to The Beaumont Enterprise and the Houston Chronicle, lied on his resume in '92 about being an accountant, lied about having worked for IBM, lied about being a graduate of the University of Houston-Clear Lake (he did later graduate) and lied about being a computer consultant at the school.

And although this may not be morally opprobrious, Stockman, who's from Michigan, spent his first six months in Texas living in the Fort Worth Water Gardens and reported having zero income to the IRS as late as 1990.  My favorite recent example of the quality of people with whom Stockman hangs out is a letter that his chief of staff sent Mimi Swartz of Texas Monthly after Swartz wrote a profile of Stockman dubbing him "Congressman Clueless." Stockman's jefe suggested that Swartz had gotten her job for reasons other than talent.  More dangerous is Stockman's association with Larry Pratt, a former director of Gun Owners of America, who has spoken at meetings of the Aryan Nation. According to the magazine Roll Call, Stockman made Pratt "almost a shadow congressman."

Okay, we can all agree that what this clown did was stupid and if the state fair wants to ban him, that's their prerogative.

Could somebody explain to me why what the clown did was racist?  I'm sure there will be plenty of sarcasm, but I'm genuinely curious.

2013-08-15 01:28:55 PM
Rodeo Clown should pump up his itty bitty baby balls and identify himself. I guess though, these sorts of people do have a history of hiding their faces while on "negro business".

Shouldn't the clown be offered a job on Fox News? Either clown.

2013-08-15 01:32:32 PM
When will our national Rodeo Clown Nightmare be over?

Really, life in America is pretty damn good (albeit stupid) if this is actually something the two sides are trying to use to their advantage.

Don't you understand!? The GOP found their new "Joe the Plumber"! In a couple of months, he'll be stumping for the GOP, using his folksy, homespun stories of bulls and bigotry to hook the redneck vote. He's like manna from Heaven - a creepy, whites-only Heaven with fake tits and big belt buckles.

They need to communicate that this man was persecuted. Otherwise, they can't use him as a wedge during the 2014 elections. The right has to establish this man as a poor, persecuted victim of the far-left conspiracy destroying 'Murica.

The fact that the left doesn't really care about one rodeo clown who did something stupid is really eating into the GOP's narrative.

I'm convinced Steve Stockman is a Democrat.  He found the dumbest conservative district in which to run, so he'd be safe no matter what, then he went out and tried to convince everybody not in his district that Republicans are batshiat loons.

Obama is the biggest pussy who has ever been president. Right after election he was warning people not to make fun of his ears. 6 Years later and his skin has gotten even thinner.

Everyone runs out every time he gets mocked and has to stick up for him. He's a grown man. If he can't take it, he needs to sit in the corner sucking his thumb and let Biden take over.

Gerrymandered districts like his typically produce the worst Congressmen.  This guy, Tom Delay, Alcee Hastings, Cynthia McKinney, "Guam will capsize" guy, Michelle Bachmann, Jesse Jackson Jr., etc....

One of the biggest mistakes Liberals have made in the past twenty five years is allow the right to define what they believe.

Liberals tend not to be particularly aggressive individuals, they're more scholarly, more able to see nuance and different sides to every issue. They tend to see themselves as "above the fray" and therefore less likely to engage when some dipshiat Conservative knuckle dragger starts in with the "socialist/fascist/commie/Marxist" nonsense.

Unfortunately, this tendency to dismiss the Conservative rhetoric as beneath recognition allows it to gain strength and as a result, all these stereotypes about Liberals are now considered "common knowledge" among the mouth breathers and it's next to impossible to undo that once it's established.

I've seen a few of my Conservative friends blathering about the left's supposed outrage at this rodeo clown, and what a travesty it is that we're not outraged about some other thing just as much, blah blah blah, yet had it not been for them drawing attention to it, I'd have never even known about it. It's like they created the Liberal outrage so they could use it as yet another thing to biatch about Liberals about, even though Liberals have largely reacted with a rather outspoken "Meh" to the whole thing.

Interesting how the right's motivation is to "annoy Liberals" but if Liberals do it back, we're being "divisive".
I cannot wait until the current crop of over-60 Conservative drones finally start dropping off so we can finally start moving forward and being a good country again.

Hell, I'd barely call the left's reaction "outraged.". Sure, I bet there were a few lefties who were, but for most of us, the reaction was "Stay classy, chucklefark", then returning to not giving a sh*t about rodeo clowns.

I notice President Obama isn't actually commenting on this idiot and the ONLY people keeping the story in circulation are Right-Wingers...mostly by screaming about how everyone is offended by it.

This is a measurable phenomenon.   Right wingers will actively make a worse choice according to their own nominal assessment of what's best if the one they consider best is in any way apparently liberal.  In pretty startling numbers.

He probably joked about it.  Politicians aren't allowed to joke or make metaphorical statements anymore.  If MLK gave the "Mountaintop" speech today, the blogosphere would erupt with proof that he had never actually been to the top of any mountain.
