Too bad. I've seen BOC in concert a few times, and enjoyed it every time. Fun band, fun fans, great music.

No irony here.  I love Blue Oyster Cult, and got to see them several times in small venues in and around Seattle in the late 90s.  Allen Lanier was incredible, multi-talented, and one of the nicest people you could ever meet.

2013-08-15 09:03:25 AM
BOC were great and people need to hear more of their music than just "the big three" (Reaper/Godzilla/Burnin' For You).  Lanier's "In Thee" is a fine acoustic ballad that is criminally ignored.

Goodnight keyboard man.

My Imaginos CD wandered off a years back.  I'm not sure if I lent it to Susie Dear or left it at the Four Winds Bar.  I did have the computer-printed lyrics (on green bar paper!), but my horn-swooped bungo pony ate it.

Biggest omission from that joke of a R&R HOF.  If Metallica is in, their biggest influence should be.

Shiatty news. Thanks for the decades of great music and hazy memories of my formative years. And a few beyond.

Yet another this when it comes to "Jann Wenner's Hall of Bands I Like And Others Who Suck Up To Me."

\seriously, why anyone would give them money anymore is beyond me

Sad stuff, BOC is my favorite band and his keyboard/synth work was a big reason why. His synth then piano solo on Flaming Telepaths as well as his work on Veteran's Of the Psychic Wars and Joan Crawford is just beautiful.  So much for an original line-up reunion.

I remember buying their first LP on vinyl back in 1972 (bought it because, to be honest, it had a cool cover and I was intrigued by songs with titles like "Workshop of the Telescopes," and "Cities on Flame with Rock and Roll" and "Stairway to the Stars"). I still think their first three albums may be the best first three released by any band ever. Their early signature tracks (before "Don't Fear the Reaper" broke them wide open nationally): "Then Came the Last Days of May," "Cities on Flame..." (off their first), "Hot Rails to Hell," "7 Screaming Diz-Busters" (from Tyranny and Mutation) and "Career of Evil," "ME 262" and "Flaming Telepaths" (from Secret Treaties) are all tremendous rock numbers. But for me, their greatest achievement will always be "Astronomy" from Secret Treaties. From the first time I heard until the most recent, it always gives me chills. Those lyrics are some of the most haunting ever written for a rock song:

Clock strikes twelve and moondrops burst
Out at you from their hiding place
Like acid and oil on a madman's face
His reason tends to fly away
Like lesser birds on the four winds
Like silver scrapes in may
And now the sand's become a crust
Most of you have gone away

If you have never heard their first three albums (having come on board during Agents of Fortune and "...the Reaper") then you NEED to buy these discs. They will blow you away.

Also, their version of Calvin Carter's "Maserati GT (I Ain't Got You) off of their first live album "On Your Feet or On Your Knees" is a thing of beauty.

Mr.Griffin is correct. Secret Treaties is one of the finest 'metal' albums ever, embarrassing much of the crap produced today.
