Your friend Alan looks like he's pretty well off. Now, appearances can be deceiving, but he looks like a pretty successful person in his profile picture.

~3,000 bucks is pretty cheap. How is he not able to afford it?

Poor dog. I'm curious how running into a tree farked up his eyes, though. Did they pop out when he hit the tree?

A very good friend of mine's bulldog, Charlie has been having some horrible luck and is in danger of losing his remaining eye after tangling with both a palm tree and some pissed racoons.   Please help 'em out if you can.

Charlie, after loss of eye.  Poor guy.

No. We all have bills. Stop treating the Internet as a pan handling operation.

I wouldn't pay $3k in vet bills for my own dog. I'd feel very sad, but in the end it's a dog.

- He'll be happy to hear that, It is after all his professional "mug shot".

- Time are tough right now, for most of us at least.

Haven't seen this particular tree, but I've seen some mighty brutal palm trunks in my time.

I also have problems. Can I have some money now?

He's got, what, 5 years to live regardless of whether or not he gets the surgery?  Put the money in a Roth IRA.

That's a really cool thing, but we have an actual Farker who is losing HIS sight, and he needs a hell of a lot more than $3K.

Maybe he should get checked out by this vet.

Every day hundreds of animals are killed in shelters all across North America because they are unwanted or abandoned and the shelters cannot afford to keep them. I'm saddened to hear of this animal's problems (and irresponsible owners), but as long as their are so many unwanted animals out there that need our help or they will be destroyed, well they deserve to be our priority.

Please support your local animal rescue organizations.

Just so I'm clear, this $3000 is a past due vet bill stemming back to Feb 28th, for which your friend has yet to pay. Now his pet is in need of medical attention again and he needs to pay the $3k before the vet will treat him for this new injury. Is that the gist of it?

I understand pets are all cute and cuddly and at times hard to resist, but owning one is a responsibility. If your friend hasn't been able to pay his vet bill since Feb 28th then he obviously isn't responsible enough to own a pet.

So, farker Internet begging is the new thing now? It's a dog, you can buy a new one with better features for that much money.

I truly feel sorry for Charlie, but your friend sounds like an irresponsible deadbeat.  Six months and he can't save $3000 to pay off a past debt?  If he hadn't had this second emergency would he even bother trying to pay it off or just hope the vet forgot about it?  Honestly, Charlie deserves better.  In short, gofundyourself.

That's wrong.

You can buy several, if not a dozen new ones for that much money.

On February 28, 2013 our English Bulldog Charlie (the page profile photo is Charlie now) was playing in our backyard with our two other dogs, and he tragically ran into a palm tree injuring his eye severely.

Dogs can adapt to losing their sight. Just don't move furniture and stuff around and he will adjust to it especially if he still has some vision.

On that same train of thought, why treat kids for their medical issues? The parents can just make another one that looks just like it for a lot less than treatments would run.

I'm sure Charlie's an awesome dog. Many of us have awesome animals. But at the end of the day, it's Charlie's owners who are responsible for ensuring that they have enough to cover vet bills. English bulldogs are super expensive to buy and have high medical needs. Now, even if they adopted him on the cheap, they should have made sure that they had enough money for vet bills. Dogs are stupid and get into the dumbest situations. That's life with a pet.

Have they sold everything they own that has value? The tv? cut the cable? Cancelled cellphones? What's their car like? Can they trade it in for a clunker and use the money for the dog? Have a goddamn bake sale???

What makes me angry is that the vet agreed to treat the poor dog and then got stiffed on the bill. Next time someone is short until payday but really needs to treat their animal, there is absolutely no way this vet will cut anyone else a break. Way to ruin it for everyone else.

Fairly recently I had to put a beloved pet to sleep because she was ill and faced a poor quality of life.  I could have paid hundreds of dollars (or more!) to try to make her as comfortable as possible, but in the end the facts remained:

1.  I faced hundreds of dollars in continued vet bills.
2.  Her conditions were largely untreatable at any cost.

We love our pets, but sometimes the best option for everyone is the hardest choice to make.  Not to be all "Welcome to Fark", but I think taking advantage of strangers' love for pets to avoid making the hard choice is a shiatty thing to do.
