Not that I did anyway, but I mean, more reason to skip classes.

They had that problem my freshman year at Illinois and all the extra kids had to live in converted lounges.  The funny thing is that they ended up building this camaraderie about the whole thing and had reunions and things long after the school found a spot for them.

Still though, the water park sounds way better.

Did they form their own fraternity and beat the Betas at the Greek Games?

My school overbooked my freshman year, but they responded by just cramming another bed into each of the 2-person dorm rooms to make them 3-person rooms.  I had the misfortune of being in one of those.  Between three beds, three desks, and three dresses in a room that was already designed to be just big enough for two, you could barely walk inside of the room.

I lucked out to a degree, as one of the roommates was a manwhore and rarely spent the night in the room.  On the other hand, the other roommate was a chronic masturbator, and while he tried to hide it early on, eventually he became comfortable enough about it that he just went to town on himself regardless of if there was anyone else in the room.

One of my Ex BFs was placed at a luxury hotel and resort in Marina Del Rey while the school waited for dorm rooms to become available. It was also within distance to the Venice Boardwalk. No doubt a bunch of students loved that arrangement...

I guess I lucked out. I moved into a dorm that was single rooms only, but it had originally been designed to house 2 people per room. Two closets, tons of space...the only down side was no air conditioning.

Some years ago, the university I attended for graduate school (University of Louisiana-Lafayette) had an overabundance of students for the dormitories--they had accepted more people into the dorms than they had beds. So what did they do? After they nixed undergrads' requests for private (single) rooms, they still had more students than they could house. The remaining overflow students were housed in the Hilton just across the street from the commuter parking lot and football field, within convenient walking distance to the campus shuttle.

Meanwhile, I had a room that was at least ten percent bigger than a hotel room to myself with cable, wireless access (on a damn good network), and I had a two-minute walk to my classes.

/Would have volunteered to live in the Hilton, though
//As long as I had access to all the amenities

Technically it was the Alpha Betas and they didn't form their own fraternity they joined the only one that would have them Lambda Lambda Lambda.

Same thing happened to me at an unnamed SEC school my freshman year..  Lucky for my, the lady that became my gf had her own apt.  Made things much more manageable.

Capital officials say they typically see about fifty beds become available in the first two to three weeks after classes start.

What kind of shiatty school has fifty people washout within the first month?

I could see it in a major university with a 20,000+ student undergrad enrollment, but apparently Capital University is a private Lutheran school with only about 2,600 students.  That does seem a bit high.

OK, I'll give you that. For some reason I was imagining some creampuff school with majors like rhetoric and underwater basketweaving.

Christ, I roomed with a guy like that. Someone needs to tell these folks that there are ways of jerking off without waking your roommate from a sound sleep.

Dividing the massive dorm buildings was a railroad track, and the guy who lived on a similar level who would jerk off whenever a train went by...with the blinds drawn. At 19 I had already heard of many fetishes, but locomotive lust wasn't one of them.

Ecobuckeye: There's a reason why that place has that many rooms available.

It used to be a high-rise Hilton many years ago, and then a Holiday Inn for a while. (My grandma lives close enough that you could throw a rock into the I-70/Hamilton Rd interchange, next to which is this place). They turned the first few floors into water-park when it became Ft. Rapids.

So the number of rooms may have more to do with the pre-existing configuration of the building than anything.

/went there a couple times when visiting the family on Xmas vacations
//nice water park, but seemed kind of pricey

It's not only people washing out, but shiat happens in the first month. A lot people who filled for financial aid late will find out that their aid didn't come through or they weren't approved for enough, people have family problems and have to leave, and yes you do get the Freshmen that are homesick and leave after a week or two.

When I arrived at Purdue, I ended up in a "Drip-Dry" room, which had a large basin to hang wet dry and a sink.  The heater didn't work; rusted up since no one ever bothered to spend much time in the room.

Anyhow, my roommate came from a very small town somewhere in Indiana, and lasted just 6 weeks.  Completely overwhelmed by the number of people, who all seemed to know what was going on except him.  I wonder if he ever left that small town again.
