Niners: "They're missing some key guys and the replacements and noobs are a question mark. Totally number one"

Seahawks: "Yeah, this guy they didn't have last year is hurt, so that means they're already weakened"

Hah.  Fine.

2013-08-14 03:10:07 PM
Did anyone actually read the descriptions under the rankings? My god, it's awful.

2013-08-14 03:21:46 PM
I wouldn't put the niners as #1.

Unless it makes them overconfident and they lose initial games.  Which will help them in the end.

What's the point of power rankings that are a) in the preseason, and b) not the Fark official* ESPN rankings? It's not real until GRAF

Just call it a hunch, but I think the Saints might be going for the jugular from start to finish this year. Starting with a heaping serving of blackened bird...

Hope so.  Vilma's apparently got another sports hernia, but it's not like the team's not used to playing without him at this point.

Niners: Division title last two years
Hawks: Uh... it's been a while

Niners: Went to NFC Championship both of the last 2 seasons.

Niners: Won five of last six head-to-head games.
Hawks: Won one of last six head-to-head games.

Niners: 9 players elected by NFL players to top 100
Hawks: 5 players elected by NFL players to top 100

Niners: Fans celebrate substance of repeated trips deep into post-season.
Hawks: Fans make a lot of noise.

You aren't gettin' GRAF or TRIV until regular season.

The Jets will be much better than the 3rd worst team in football.

They can't be any worse than they were last year, and yet they won 6 games last year.

2013-08-14 04:16:48 PM
According to this, the 49ers schedule starts out: 8, @2, 12, @16, 5

That's a tall order

I hate this "power" ranking bullshiat.  It's a ranking of sports teams - "power" is more or less assumed.

Like, say, the year before that?

Niners have had less success in a division with the Seahawks than the Seahawks have. But by all means, celebrate stuff from before the teams played each other.

If you don't think the Seahawks are a threat to the Niners, you're not paying attention.  Especially given that, if they do win the division, they're pretty much guaranteed a Super Bowl spot because of Magic Stadium.

Remember, Magic Stadium gave Marshawn Lynch the strength of 15 men.

Hmm, hopefully this arbitrary list is better than the winning percentage from the previous season method of ranking scheds, lol.

I will say that the part where he said "as soon as you see Ryan Mathews get tackled, you assume he's injured" is very true.

Exactly. Everything's so vanilla right now that the only real reason to move teams up or down is injuries or crazy, last-minute free agent acquisitions.

Actually, that came off a bit biatchier than I intended. Any signpost that says "TALK FOOTBALL HERE," like useless non-official rankings, is a good way to tide us over while we're waiting for the appetizer to finish.

By the way, not to threadjack, but what has everybody thought of this year's Hard Knocks so far?

You tell kids there isn't any santa claus don't you? Look just because you root for a team with a real defense/offense, and that has seen the play off in a decade doesn't mean you should crush the hopes of the rest of us!

I also feel like the Cardinals are way underrated.

With a mediocre QB like Kevin Kolb last year, the squad was what, 5-1? Palmer can be mediocre. The rest of that team is no joke.

Cardinals had a lot of injuries as well. And you forgot John Skelton man!

I still don't think they'll do anything this year, the surprise team in the west is going to be the Rams. They take the division book it done.

Seahawks won't make the play offs, I saw the preseason game, the refs got the memo.

2013-08-14 04:31:12 PM
You mean it took two whole posts for a Seahawks fan to whine about their being disrespected and having the entire league against them?

You guys are slacking. You need to pay more attention... maybe consider some medications that would help with that.

Old Testament God is striking biatches down.  Why couldn't he have done it last year?  If anybody deserves a biblical smackdown its Buttfumbles.

I've read on a couple of media outlets where camp visitors are quietly saying the Redbirds are intriguing.  Gil Brandt (who? oh, nobody) was quoted in i think Peter King about how impressed he was with the camp.  you never know.

the in-conference sked is, duh, gonna be tough.  the OOC sked is not terribly intimidating, but there are some other teams (the south) that can make your piggie squeal.  so 25 doesn't bother me.  i'd rather be here than popping my jersey, flossing a top 10 ranking when, farking hell, camp rosters are still 80 or whatever.  lotta cuts left.

RISE UP, RED SEA

So no actual argument other than "Y'all complain?" I mean the niners are without Crabtree someone who contributed directly to their offense last year. The Hawks are down Harvin, someone who wasn't even on the team last year. I'd say putting one over the other is a bit of homerism.

Rams aren't really a surprise team, at least not within the West. going 4-1-1 in the division will do that for you.

Frankenhead is going to take them to the woodshed this year, they'll finish third place in their own division (behind denver and san diego) they'll probably be lucky to be ahead of the Raiders. Andy Reid and Alex Smith aren't going to suddenly make the Chiefs a real boy I'm sorry.
