Would it be acceptable for two brothers or two sisters to buy a house together?

2013-08-14 11:41:20 AM
What's the ruckus about? I mean, why would anyone want to live anywhere where they aren't welcome?

2013-08-14 11:41:22 AM
If they want their neighbors to abide by certain conduct, that should be their right.  Don't like it, buy a condo somewhere else.

2013-08-14 11:41:27 AM
Umm, a condo association does not have the power to pass "ordinances," as this story says. It's policy, not law. Still, pretty stupid.

2013-08-14 11:43:02 AM
So what happens if a single gay person buys one of their condo's and then gets married and has their spouse move in?

Cheron: Would it be acceptable for two brothers or two sisters to buy a house together?

No. But a brother and sister would be fine because they can procreate.

I feel like this argument was made like... I dunno... in the 1940s-1970s?  About similar restrictions against certain people.  Geez, my memory is bad nowadays.

Might be, in Florida - don't know if sexual orientation is a protected class, there. Here in Cali, this would be a no-no.

It's funny that these are the same people worried about Sharia law.

Wow.  I need to remember to keep up with that case.  He's got the too bright eyes of a psychopath, but she's got the kind of dead eyes that might make me believe 'wouldn't stop hitting me' might have meant 'tired of coming home to screaming arguments followed by a frying pan upside my head because I'm an unemployed 'extra' for TV shows.'

They put anti-Sharia bills (stupid idea in itself because there are no PRO-Sharia law bills anywhere) together with bills that seek to criminalize gay behavior.   Their heads should be exploding from cognitive dissonance.

Wait wait wait, I work in escrow (I know that's a west coast thing) but still. We have people all the time that purchase small places together for investments, or people helping others out. How can you just assume they are gay? Weird.

So in order to be anti-sharia law you must be pro-murder, pro-stealing etc etc.?

Nope - sexual orientation is not a protected class under federal law, and maybe not in Florida. I don't know. In a lot of states, it would violate state law.

Pretty sure discrimination based on race is illegal. Even in Florida.

You haven't studied religion enough then.  Consider that many religions saved their harshest punishments for heretics, those who have 'warped' the faith, as opposed to heathens, those not of the faith.

They want their own religious law imposed, not somebody else's.  And yes, the religious types get into fights more with each other than the secular types.

While the US considers Mosques not targets for the most part, terrorists seem to love them in factional conflicts.

/Still not happy how I'm expressing this.

What other conduct do you feel they should be able to regulate in their little world?

Voting? clothing? Movie/tv viewing? Type of vehicle? Hobbies?

I guess I mean it's weird that they would cut that whole demographic out and lose money just because you *MAY* have someone that goes against your "morals" living there. What about room mates? I bought a house by myself when I was 23, but originally the people I had lived with as room mates since we were 17 were considering all going in together on a place. What about family members? This is just.. I don't...

Who cares?

The solution in NJ is to have more Mafia running the condo associations -- the original subscription business experts. And they know how to deal with customer service complaints.

Since this violates Christ's command, "Judge not", does this complex not allow Christians to live there?

The problem with condominium/HO associations is that you get assholes in them who get drunk on the tiniest amount of power ever.

The sad thing is that would actually be ten times better as they wouldn't do anything blatantly illegal as that would cast light on their operations. Unlike a lot of HOA and Condos that violate a lot of contract law.

BINGO. Now they just need to add Hispanics, Jews, blacks, atheists, Muslims, and pretty much anyone non-white Christian to the list and they're on the way to the 'Murica they so desperately want.

I can see this happening in a fundie community. Everyone knows those persnickety homos are more likely to rat you out for having under-age hookers over.

Isn't it a federal crime to discriminate when it comes to housing?
