United States Middle-aged Ninja Turtles?

I fully support the continuation of that losing streak.

A friendly against a team that's not going to make the cup. How seriously are we going to take this game?

Pretty sure that was a typo and stubby meant the US Mint. Lord knows what they are doing with Bosnia.

You do know Bosnia is ranked 13th in the world, right?

Bosnia's currently leading their group for qualification.

Admittedly, the draw gifted them a group with Liechtenstein, Latvia, Lithuania, Slovakia, and Greece, but they're still leading.

Whoops I read the headline wrong. My bad

And the U.S is currently ranked 19th, and I doubt we're "better" than some solid teams behind us like Denmark, France, or, you know, Mexico on our best day.

But yeah, Bosnia had a lot of talent.

Herp.

They might get embarrassed if they do not bring their game. Bosnia does in fact field a pretty good squad.

2013-08-14 01:24:08 PM
I would love to see them carry forward their momentum from the Gold Cup.  I've really enjoyed watching this team, they are definitely better from a technique standpoint than any US team I can recall seeing.

I think the US as a top 20 is entirely believable. There are arguably some teams in the Top 20 that shouldn't be there though. FIFA rankings aren't very good when trying to estimate how good a team really is

Take Brazil for instance, they don't have to play in any WCQ, so they end up not getting any points to help their FIFA ranking. Whereas all the other Conmebol teams get points for their games they play. So their FIFA ranking drops, even though they are probably the best team on the continent.

It's much better to use something like the ESPN SPI rankings, which you know, uses actual statistics

If England's U-21s v Scotland's U-21s yesterday was any indication, the Scots might leave Wembley in tears by halftime. I think ENG killed them 6-0.

Other news:

EPL: If you have DirecTV, the listings for this weekend's games are up on the program guide

Luis Suarez says that because of the fans, he's now willing to stay at Liverpool. SIAC then scored once in Uruguay's 4-2 win over Japan in Tokyo. Remember, he's out for 6 domestic matches for impersonating Mike Tyson last Spring.

Ukraine's Metalist Kharkiv has beein disqualified from the UEFA Champion's League and all UEFA competition for this season after being found guilty of match fixing. They were to have played Schalke in the final qualification stage for the UCL starting next week.

Well Scotland always tries very hard hard against England.

It's not weird that I took the afternoon off so that I could come home and watch this, right? I still have some stuff to do, but nothing I need to be in the office for.

You can probably use WatchESPN, assuming you have an online login for one of their affiliated cable systems.

Getting a kick out of some of these replies?

I'm very excited for this game.  A chance to see some new guys who have very promising futures and a chance for our A- squad to play against a very good team.

For those who are regulars to the EPL threads, has a league been set up for the score predictor again like last season?

Kazan: we just won the gold cup, mexico was knocked out in the semifinal by the team we beat in the final

So? Neither Mexico nor the U.S brought their A team.

The only serious takeaway from the Gold Cup is that our B team is halfway decent (most of the competition in CONCACAF is laughable anyways so our B team SHOULD look okay against them), and that Donovan is back in form. That's it.

This is going to be a dull 1-1 draw. Scotland will park ten men behind the ball and will get a lucky goal when one of the English defenders retards up for a moment. It will then be unrelenting pressure that amounts to nothing but a scrappy goal where the ball is bundled over the line.

/the sooner we get rid of the golden generation the better

Yeah, thanks.  It looks like it is more robust than the last time I used it, when you could only view ESPN3.

Yeah...but MX's B-team should still have rolled Panama. And I'm not sure if it was Panama's A-Squad or B-Squad, as they had both Blas Perez and Gabriel Torres playing.
Also, he made two other points you seem to have ignored.
Mexico has been looking awful lately. Their record this year 5-4-8. They've played almost all the same teams that the US has, and our record is far, far better this year.

did you ignore the entire part where we beat them in Azteca stadium? where we're above them in WCQ standings?

2013-08-14 02:44:06 PM
Why is everyone in ESPN trying to jinx the streak? "The longest winning streak in the world, currently." Well, there goes that one.

Kazan: did you ignore the entire part where we beat them in Azteca stadium? where we're above them in WCQ standings?

I'll grant you our "form" looks better than Mexico's of late, but we're talking about a pretty small sample size here to just nominate ourselves as head and shoulders better than our southern neighbor.

And, which "win" are you talking about? The one in 2012? We just played them again in Azteca this year and escaped with a 0-0 draw.

Also one WCQ game right now.  The make up of the snowed out Northern Island v. Russia game.

How was he onside? That was awful defending by the US.

2013-08-14 02:49:13 PM
What a bs goal.  Totally offsides, but horrible defense.  US looked alright before that.

2013-08-14 02:49:24 PM
Well, that was quick

2013-08-14 02:49:55 PM
Well I guess he was onsides and it was basically just terrible defending.

Well, considering it was Eddie Johnson, it's understandably horrible.

Is Altidore asleep? What was that?

2013-08-14 02:51:28 PM
Holy crap, that should have been a goal.  Altidore should have shot it and EJ should have run up more.

2013-08-14 02:51:54 PM
What an awful start by the US.

2013-08-14 02:54:02 PM
At least the US responded by attacking.  Let's see if they can pull back before the half.

Pretty much this.

Should have been a peno on Dixx there.

Eh, it's Bosnia. Referees want to live and breath. Can't imagine Bosnia is super safe, law and order kind of place for a ref.

2013-08-14 03:02:55 PM
How was that not a foul?  Ref is "letting them play", but that's a bit much.

2013-08-14 03:04:47 PM
You know, somebody might want to keep an eye on that Dzecko guy.

2013-08-14 03:06:44 PM
This is nearly Bosnia's World Cup team vs. USA's B, maybe C team.  No one should be surprised.

Agree. Nice to see the technical skills of the US sides improving year over year.

2013-08-14 03:08:08 PM
Could have been a red there if this was a legit game.

2013-08-14 03:08:37 PM
Hey, the ref found his whistle!
