My two nephews fired at least 1 quadrillion shots just this summer. I've never played the game, and I know waaay more about it that I'd ever care to.

BF3 single player was OK.  I've played through 2 or 3 times for shiats and giggles.  Th earthquake in Iran/Iraq which lights a fire under the story is an interesting premise.

There's still one I would recommend for the single-player: Spec Ops: The Line.

Borderlands 2 does a pretty good job of not being 24/7 brown blah too. That and I much prefer co-op to competitive games these days. Constant stat tracking seems to make people take their games way to seriously these days. Oh look, I've just been called a name again, only the 178th time this hour.

I've really tried to get into CoD. I've played most of the games, and they are just absolutely terrible to me compared to Halo, especially on a competitive basis. I know Halo has pulled a lot of the Call of Duty stuff into the game but it's still like 400 times more playable to me than CoD. Most of the time I play CoD I'm struggling to understand how some camper on the killcam shot me through a wall from 100 feet away.

Really liking Halo 4 right now, although H2/H3 were really the apex of the series.

Halo 4 pissed me off for one main reason. They nerfed the Forge. I spent a majority of my Halo: Reach time on Forge mode just building random maps. I made a badass go-cart one my friends and I would play for hours. Made another one that was a golf course. They removed the Forge World, so you were basically stuck with the standard maps everyone played anyway but you could add some objects or vehicles if you wanted.

Other than that, yea I've had fun with Halo 4. Specifically Grifball. Nothing like finding a team that actually knows how to work together and dominating for a while.

God damn I love that game. Free to play and doesn't require investing any money to be competitive. Buying weapons with money or just using earned certs doesn't give you access to weapons that are any better than the regular ones, they just match your play style more closely. The vehicles and infantry have to work together to be effective. The squad/platoon mechanics and communication are what BF3 envies to be. The game is constantly being updated with more content and features to keep it fresh (again, all free).

I just hit the max on my subscription to earn XP and certs so I'm able to have a more diversified loadout for each situation. Support roles are greatly rewarded (medic and engineer classes are my favorite).

When I want an arcady shooter, I'll fice up COD on the 360. When I want a large tactical shooter it's PS2 on my PC.

Also, NC for life!

The biggest release is hossin, but they have reintroduced things like lattice systems to help with battle flow and a few balance changes, as well as new camos and such to keep the money coming. Also more ui improvements to help manage platoons. lots of waypoints available.

Back in the day when the Unreal games were among the top FPSs I used to play it a decent amount with friends. Whenever I ran the server I always disabled any health packs/etc. It really changes up the game when people have to actually pay attention and can't get away with simply running around like a madman shooting everything.

The trick is to NOT defend 3 positions.  Defend 2.  then, send EVERYBODY into the center and throw everything at it.  It took me a LONG time to get it right.

You aren't the only one, the game has had some pretty serious player base abandonment. The last time I bothered trying to play it was actually boring. The group I was rolling with was pretty much running from one outpost to the next with near zero resistance. It may technically have more players on at any given time than say a Battlefield map but the fighting zone is so large that most of the time it feels much emptier.

I only play totally realistic games, where if one bullet or large piece of shrapnel hits you, you have to fall back and hope to find a medic before bleeding to death.  You then get sutured, medevac'ed, then spend several in-game months in rehab before you are allowed back into the action (assuming you are not permanently crippled).  In most cases you are just medically discharged and then you get to the minigame called "fight the VA for your rightfully earned benefits while going into massive debt and suffering from PTSD." That's the lucky outcome, too - in some cases, you are actually killed by your injuries, in which case you have to buy a new copy of the game and create a totally new character if you want to play any more.

I can't wait for the cycle to come back around to WWII again. When were the last ones? CoD3 was 2006. BF1943 was 2009, but that one hardly counts since it was just the pacific maps.

The first Battlefield 1942 is a decade old now. Even if they just took it (weapons, levels, etc) and moved it up to todays graphics and engine, it would kick all sorts of ass.

I used to play that. They gave out a bunch of the earned ability points to replace items in the cash shop, messed it all up, giving players who didn't even buy anything a ton of free certification points. After spending money on that, I got real pissed.

The gist was that you could buy weapons for cash OR certification points but direct class or vehicle upgrades had to be purchased with certification points. Some of the upgrades made you significantly better and were the sign of veteran or experienced players. I had for the longest worked on upgrading a specific kit only to find players who never played more than an hour had thousands of these points for some reason. To me, it was the worst thing you could've done. I don't like most FPS games because there's no sense of progression. On Planetside 2, I felt like I had a vested interest in my development but when suddenly hundreds of low-level players had all the upgrades I worked quite hard to acquire. Real bone-headed move there.

I apparently missed a major server merge (1 to 1 merge) and there is 1 or 2 servers out there with SERIOUS balance issues (like %70 of one faction) but the one I run on, matherson, is pretty balanced (a little high on the VS, noticable when alerts draw alot of people to logon their VS character ) and evenings have no problem drawing multiple fronts with 48+ on each side. The squad you ran with just sucks, thats all. I currently run with a well organized outfit that runs platoons, using 3 squads working together but not side by side, and sometimes a 4th squad takes up armor.

The only shooter worth playing right now:
files.softicons.com
Unfortunately moving from F2P to P2W model, as all F2P does. Not a shooter for the stupid, or stupid little kids.

Geotpf: All Modern Brown Shooters bore me.

I stick to CoD4. Many old Quake players. I like to kick their asses.

Half of them were head shots from everyone using aimbots?

I haven't played that in months. Did they come out with new stuff?

You aren't the only one, the game has had some pretty serious player base abandonment. The last time I bothered trying to play it was actually boring. The group I was rolling with was pretty much running from one outpost to the next with near zero resistance. It may technically have more players on at any given time than say a Battlefield map but the fighting zone is so large that most of the time it feels much emptier.

Loooove Planetside 2. So many improvements in the last few months. You've got a new vehicle that is fun as hell to drive, Esamir that was redesigned and had the lattice system put in, plus a whole bunch of quality of life patch to improve on things that were annoying the users about the UI and such. Population between empires is a lot more balanced than it was a few months ago, but yes there will be times when the enemy is nowhere to be found around you. My best recommendation is to find a group of guys you like to run with and join their outfit. The game becomes a lot more fun once you do that. If you do prefer to got at it solo, then when you find yourself in one-sided roflstomps you can hit the instant action button (much improved) and it will take you to an actual battle most of the time.

AUAIOMRN: 25 billion hours
32 quadrillion shots

That's over a million shots per hour (for one person). That's 355 per second, assuming nonstop firing.

Seems legit.

You beat me to it.

I suspect it's supposed to be 32 trillion shots.

That needs to be updated to C4.  There's a reason why every single call out I have has Flak Jacket on it.

Although the Vegas series was severely dumbed down from what the game used to be, it was fun as hell.  I enjoyed it far more than any Call of Duty and Halo game.  The first part was better than the second part though.

Sure hope Patriots turns out okay.

1 had better maps, 2 had a sprint button. Give me 1.

CoD 4 was light years better then either anyway. Even if it's gotten old.

Bane of Broone: I have Battlefield and COD. I haven't touched either in about a year, but I still throw down on this every day.

I was addicted to Team Fortress 2 for a period of about three years (release date until Left 4 Dead 1 was released and from July 2011 until early this year).  I'll probably get addicted again at some point.

I mostly play these days on the 360 (used to be a PC gamer, but now I only really have time to play half hour here and there so a gaming PC just doesnt make sense anymore casually). I loved TF2 however I am pissed off at valve over the support they gave the 360 version. They kept promising updates and saying they were going to wait and bundle all the updates together as Microsoft wouldn't allow them to issue content as a patch and it had to be sold as DLC and they didnt want to rip off the 360 users for what the PC users were getting for free. Well years pass and the update never came.

That and instant action and redeploy make it easy to find something going on.  I'm in a big outfit but most of the time I run solo and just follow the outfit attack points.  Also, the game runs well on most machines compared to PS1 which I could never get to run quite smoothly even after it had been out for years and my hardware was well past the basic specs.

Also, the XP gains for resupplying, assisting in kills and damage to planes helps out quite a bit, since even if you don't get a lot of straight kills you are getting certs.  I turned on the Alpha XP boost the other day and it's been pretty easy to upgrade stuff.
