Fortunately it was eaten up by a cat and troubled me no more.

TFA: "From there, scientists transplanted the cells onto a mouse heart that had been completely stripped - turning the organ into what's known as a "scaffold." Over a period of weeks, the transplanted human cells proliferated and differentiated, rebuilding the scaffold into a functional organ capable of beating on its own."

It's almost like they 3D printed that heart.

Can't they just fade it out to a montage of clocks ringing?

We're weeks away from everyone using organs grown on demand.

Oh good, new hearts for everyone.  Now we can keep alive every dumbshiat who can't even be bothered to take his own life-saving medications.  What a boon for society.

This is not new... and it doesn't have much promise. There is simply no way this could be scaled up and used in humans, and besides, they've only done it using a mouse heart scaffold. I have created beating "hearts" in vitro many times before and just because they beat autonomously doesn't mean they can pump blood.

It's good to know that if I can't think of a miserable and depressing way of looking at something I can always come here and find people who can.

I thought the difficulty with heart cells is to stop them from beating spontaneously. People like to talk about heartbeats as the sign of life and such but the heart is a really simple organ. Just a timer and a solenoid, basically.

Well, sure... And you can't connect two neurons without a clock happening. It's more what you get when you put a lot together.

I came here to say that I'm looking forward to the Simpson's Tell-Tale Heart Playset. But now  there may be legal problems. Too bad, it was a great idea.

Well, they can always steal it. It's their show. I'll testify that I thought of it before Barfmaker did. He just posted the art, not the concept. Free playset! That's all I ask! And costs. Pay my costs.
