Making a movie with my money?

Shut up and give me all your points.

Metroid isn't good source material for a film.  There aren't many other characters, and Samus is too solitary.

Zelda would be much better.

Yep.  Nintendo doesn't even want people to stream YouPlay videos of their games on Youtube.  They're going to sue even if it's just a reflexive action to show that they're defending the usage of the IPs.

It's a short, there is more than enough material for that.

After Other M? No thanks. Team Ninja did a lot to try and deflect blame away from themselves for that game, but if even half the stuff they claimed is true, I don't want anyone -not even Nintendo- touching that franchise until Sakamoto is gone.

Prime 3 and Other M both had other characters. There's also room in the story for some weird looking benevolent aliens. You could develop the space pirates some more and give them names. Still, a solitary character alone on an alien planet for whatever reason - bounty mission, trying to escape, etc - for at least a third of the movie would be neat.

Oh god, that game was a clusterf*ck all around.

1) You had to turn the controller sideways and go into first person view in order to use missiles.

2) Samus had all her equipment from the beginning (instead of losing it after the first level like every other Metroid game), but you couldn't access them until her former commander gave her the go-ahead...which he wouldn't do until the last minute, like not letting you use the heat-proof armor until after you've almost completed the lava stages. *facepalm*

3) Stripping Samus of her personality and making her an idiot with daddy issues who can't cut a fart without asking a man for permission.

If Nintendo is smart, they'll say that the Samus in Other M was actually the Samus clone-hybrid from Fusion, and not the real Samus. That would explain why it had her memories but not her personality.

This is just an elaborate con. After a few people promised stuff on KickStarter and then ran off with thousands of dollars without delivering on their promises, KS now requires would-be creators to actually give donors any extras promised in return for their money, or else they have to give refunds. Of course, if these guys get several hundred thousand and Nintendo sends them a "cease and desist" (which is going to happen), they can walk away with the cash Scot-free because "that mean old bully" Nintendo stopped them from making their film.

I don't see the point.

I enjoyed playing the Metroid games, but I don't think there's a whole lot of depth to that universe beyond "Here's some weird alien shiat for you to fight/puzzle your way through/latch a grappling hook on to/get a new suit, visor, etc from".  It's fun stuff to play, but it wouldn't be any fun to view passively as an exercise in storytelling.

I think that's why it's a $90,000 film.  It'll probably be 5 mins long, one min of which will be credits.

I don't see how that's a whole lot different from watching a buddy play a Metroid game; which can be done for free.  If you want to add ambience, have a woman acquaintance drink a couple shots of whisky to get all gravelly-voiced and have her ad-lib a  Blade Runner-esque monologue as your buddy plays the game.  Voila, free  Metroid movie.  Film it sideways on your phone and you've saved everyone 90 thousand bucks.

Kansas City shuffle. Classic. The grifters knew it. The gypsies knew it. The Carthagenians knew it. And now you know it.

Metroid: Other M gets a bad rap.

Yeah, the writing and the cutscenes were pretty bad.  It was a disservice to Samus character.  And the way the weapons upgrades were unlocked was stupid.

But if you look past the bad writing and dialogue, the core gameplay was actually pretty decent.  I enjoyed the game.

Not far off:

From the creative teams of Massive State and Moxie Lady Productions comes Metroid: Enemies Within, a 10-minute live-action fan film based on Nintendo's science-fiction action-adventure video game series Metroid.

I never said no women at all play games. Actors and actresses pander to what the audience wants to hear, this was pandering.

This should get reported to kickstarter. Not having the rights to make the film in the first place has to be violating some rule of theirs.

Yes, because the best thing to do with a gorgeous, well-endowed, highly-paid actress is to cram her inside of a suit of armor that covers her from head to toe, rendering her completely unrecognizable and negating her sex appeal until the very last scene of the movie.

Actually, the opposite. Their official policy is the videos can stay, as long as Nintendo can run an ad first. Which isn't exactly an outrageous request.

I like the concept. And I would love a well done Metroid movie(well done = ymmv). But 90K is way too low, let alone that this will never get off the ground due to Nintendo C&Ds.

Were they thinking, that $$ goal would be higher, with part of it going to wards licensing the IP for this project, and maybe even getting a couple more known names.

The images of the tech demos look pretty sweet. But this will go nowhere, let alone I don't see it even getting close to its goal.

2013-08-14 08:43:40 AM
I'd be happy to be wrong, but I firmly believe that a Metroid movie would be absolute garbage.  You wouldn't be able to effectively capture the sense of exploration that pervades Metroid games.

2013-08-14 11:17:45 AM
The storyboard for it was garbage. Poorly paced cliched garbage. farking storyboard artist couldnt even get the suit right. They may as well have just called it "POWER SUIT GIRL" but oh wait theyre hoping to ride the metroid name to a pay day.  Where did subby see production values? the overly lensflared concept art? the shiatty cg hallway in the proposal?

2013-08-14 11:25:23 AM
If they get it done, good for them. But I am really waiting on a new game that uses the Super Metroid game play but with modern day graphics. (Shadow Complex, but an actual Metroid game and not as easy to figure out.)

Gotta love all you folks that are all "Omahgerd she's an actress and she's hot, there's no way she could enjoy video games, because she's hot, and she's an actress!"

Look at Felicia Day, video game nerd and producer/creator of a great deal of nerdy material, actress and she's hot. Granted I know there's plenty of folks that don't see things that way, but that's just like, your opinion man.

While I agree with your general premise, there's a difference between saying "OMG, I'm, like, totes nerdy! Just LOOK at my glasses!" And level-grinding in WoW just to get the next mount. (Never played WoW, sorry if I offended.) The lovely Ms. Day lives the nerd life, and I respect her for it, as I do any chick that actually does so.

Yeah, but most folks here don't give many women, especially hot ones much of a chance to prove they're more than "OMG just look at my glasses, totally nerdy!", especially since none of them are going "look at my glasses. " They say things like I'm a gamer or game nerd or they like sci-fi or what have you, and the majority of us nerds start off all "Bullshiat!" and never take any of them at their word for it and don't give them much of a chance to prove otherwise. Then if they do prove otherwise it's all "Well she's the exception that proves the rule"

Face it, there are hot girls that like the same shiat we do, and there's more and more of them everyday.

/btw, the grinding wasn't so much for the next mount, although mounts were part of it. The grind was to hit max level because that's when the game really begins for many people. When they can stop throwing gear away every couple levels and start getting ready to raid.
//WoW free for over a year and a half now, but that gives way to playing more single player games these days.
