Is this Dolly Parton fan going to have to cut a bish?

This link smells a little to me like a coordinated marketing or PR campaign of some sort, since the video itself is currently featured on the "guy's" website (and the guy's name is Josh Weathers). But I'll give it to him, he did nail that song.

Please shut the fark up and sing, dude.

Fast forward to 1:38 if you want to hear him do the song.

He clearly states it's about The Bodyguard Soundtrack. Just because Dolly wrote the song doesn't mean he's covering Dolly. He's covering Whitney.

Nope. I didn't even know it was on the guy's website until you said something.

That's from The Kessler's YouTube page.  They record most of their shows and post a good chunk online.  It seems more likely that they're allowing him to use their recording.  And that venue is probably the best sounding in town.

You didn't expect me to listen to it, did you?  I lived under a woman who literally played Whitney's version in her every waking hour.

It practically drove me to complete madness and that doesn't take up much gas, I tell you what.

And she survived longer than 3 days?  You're a stronger man than I...

I once lived next door to a guy that played Led Zeppelin's "Rock and Roll" over and over and over again, and high volume, for about 6 hours before I went over there and threatened to show him how they make bulls into steers if he didn't stop it. To this day when I hear the cymbal beginning of that song, I get all twitchy...

He's very good, and the lead-in story is funny and entertaining.  He does, however, seem to have difficulty in pronouncing "will always".  "fill alwish", "phil arnich", "vill arneth"... I dunno.  Weird.

I've never heard this song sung well when sung by a woman. The only people who seem to be able to get this song right are guys. Yet it was written by Dolly and covered by Whitney. Maybe I just have ear-rot from hearing this farking thing on a loop for most of a year back in '92.

While the guy in the vid is doing a great job, I think it also just emphasizes how incredibly gifted Whitney was before drugs and an abusive husband entered her life. That woman had quite the pipes. I wasn't always a fan of her songs (genre-wise), but I was always in awe of her voice.

2013-08-13 04:34:56 PM
No matter how much you keep saying Dolly's name in here she won't show you her boobs. Whitney made the song huge and sang it better.

Ok.. now I watched the video.

Still prefer the version I linked to x 1000.

IMHO, it is much better.

I wish Dolly & Elvis had worked out that deal.  The King's version would have been perfect.

So I'm guessing this guy doesn't do coke and drown in a bathtub in a hotel then?  Too soon?

Sorry, but this guy's cover is far better.  I'm a big fan of Cornell's voice, but he drifts flat several times during this cover and it is slightly out of his range.

He's still the best singer to come out of the Seattle scene since Geoff Tate.

The Kessler is a great theater.  CSB: my buddies filmed this stripped down version of their song "If I lay down in the River" in the stairway of the Kessler.

Sorry, but this song is now forever and for all time the property of Shara Worden, as she casually knocks it out of the park at a karaoke bar during a birthday party.

I'm aware of Whitney's version of the song, but this guy's actually singing I Wilfphalways Love You, which is something completely different.

Here's a cover of Home (from the Wiz) I just came across and he nails the feeling better than Diana Ross did.

Maybe I'm getting old, but I remember a time when it wasn't acceptable for girls to get drunk and yelp like a collie in a bear trap every six seconds of the song.

I couldn't help but think, as he started talking about his mom - SOB was born in 92, wasn't he. Please don't tell me he was born in 1992 when this cover came out. Oh good, he was in third grade.

But still.
