Yeah, that's the ticket.

Not that this is likely here, but there HAVE been cases of people being made drug mules without even knowing it.

Oh just pay the $100 oversized/overwight baggage fee and be done with it.

Did anyone else pack your luggage for you, did anyone else touch your luggage but you?  These questions were for this guy.

Pro tip: Don't go on a multi-week international trip with just your one lady friend, meet a bunch of semi-shady guys, and expect not to get sold into some sort of slavery.

That reminds me of when I used to bring drugs on the plane.  Back before some ugly dick put a bomb in his shoe and messed up my technique.  Now, I can't even jock it with the full-body scanners.  Thanks, terrorists.  You really farked the drug community.

2013-08-13 11:33:36 AM
How 11 kg of cocaine gets into people's luggage:

1) they are voluntary drug mules;
2) they are unwitting drug mules;
3) they accept to care a package for a "friend" or "stranger", thus becoming unwitting drug mules
4) airport employees are in the employ of drug gangs;
5) it is planted by the police, CIA or others of that ilk
6) they are major drug users and they really need 11 kg of cocaine for their own personal use and their friends.
7) they are blackmailed or coerced into being drug mules
8) employees of the hotel, taxi company or tour are in the employ of drug gangs
9) some other random person, perhaps a member of the same tour group, plants it, with the intent of recuperating the drugs at some later point in time.
10) similar bags get mixed up at the hotel, airport, or what not

This list is not exhaustive in my opinion, but it is pretty thorough.

For "care" read "carry" or "care for".

For a moment there, I thought the headline implied that Orly Taitz had been found with 11 kilos.

It was a nice moment.

someone please explain to me (without laughing) how 1 kilogram (2.2 lbs) of cocaine is valued at $1.5 million pounds? Did they break it down to tiny dime bags (the size you'd buy in prison)? What a joke-

2013-08-13 11:50:45 AM
Ok, I read it wrong- 11 kilo's- that makes more sense

They clearly say that someone made them carry the packages that contained the drugs. The article also gives the best explanation for how they found themselves in the situation, based on the typical MO of the drug gangs.

But I suppose I can still speculate that they are alien pod people.

Apparently their parents had no idea they were in Peru to boot.  Yeah, that's totally normal.

So...they'd rather keep the current debt and THEN put on the pounds?  Given the options, I would have thought they'd have chosen one or the other but not both.

I never understood the thought process behind trying to smuggle large quantities of drugs on commercial airlines.

Aren't there many better ways to do this without putting ones self at such high risk?

Agreed.  On the one hand I'm glad my life never got into the sort of situation where carrying drugs seemed appealing... on the other hand geez there are a lot of dumb people in the world.

You know, if the final episode of "Breaking Bad" can surpass the final season episode of "Orange is the New Black" then that will be a pretty good ending. That farking religious inmate was nuts!
