Congress doesn't understand half of the laws/projects they make or fund.

They had to pass it so they could never find out what was in it.

A guy on the Intelligence committee says he told everyone he couldn't send them the document, but they were more than welcome to come down to his office and read it there.

A few other guys claim that he never told them that.

How is this even a debatable point?  There would have to have been some paper trail of this contact.  Some intern took the memo down to their office and had them sign for it.  Or an email - and  I cannot imagine that every single email to and from a congressional representatives account is not saved in perpetuity.  Just open up the records for that week and see if the head of the committee sent out a message to the 'representatives' distro list with that subject heading.

It says a lot about our state-media when all these stories come from overseas.

Shoot... didn't Nancy say that the only way to find out what was in Obamacare was to pass it? This is par for the course.

Happy, Farklibs?

Lets get this out of the way...

Just because something is legal does not mean that it isn't wrong. It was legal at one time to own other people.

And also, Congress should be more involved in this kind of shiat. Congress is part of the checks and balances, and keeping them out of the loop only opens up avenues for abuse.

Conversely, just because something is wrong, does not make it illegal. Which is why anyone surprised that Obama's administration, or ANY administration, would chase down Snowden; If someone leaks classified information on something that's legal and gets away with it, that encourages other leakers. And those other leakers might leak even more sensitive information, that would put lives in danger. NO government would take that risk.

Fight to get the law changed. Don't think Obama's administration, by chasing down Snowden, is doing something no other administration would do.

Focusing on the (reasonable) hunting of Snowden is a red herring, to distract from the fact that the majority of politicians, D or (especially) R *like* shiat like PRISM.

Well, technically she said "But we have to pass the bill so that you can find out what is in it", but it is pretty much the same as what you wrote.

She believes that way to understand something is to do the work of implementing it instead of, you know, doing their actual jobs and thinking about it.  That is one reason we have these wonderful unintended consequences (hello part time employees, hello waivers for Friends of Obama and especially Congress.)

We, you, and their: these words do not mean what you think they mean.

You're giving Pelosi waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa aaaaaay to much credit.

We all know what she meant, namely, "Hell, I didn't read the whole gd bill. I don't read anything longer than the Communist Manifesto! I guess we'll have to find out what's in the bill after we pass it and it's getting rammed down our throats!"

It used to be we rank-and-file voters who were deluded into thinking we were the source of power.  Now it's the large majority of the members of Congress.  Another 20 years or so and I imagine there will be a Patriot Act Board of Patriot Act Patriots who make all of the decisions, and if you ask who the Patriot Act Board of Patriot Act Patriots are, or what they do, or why, you get thrown into a Patriot Act Reeducation Cell for 30 or 40 years.

If you don't ask any questions, and pay the 35% sales tax fair tax, you're fine.

If they knew what was in the bill, they wouldn't have had to get a special exemption from Obama for the Congress Critters.

Don't forget about all the Obama-Cronies who miraculously got exemptions as well.

So there's this.... plus the director of the NSA lying to congress about the program...

But it's supposed to make us feel better because congress has oversight. That congressional oversight is supposed to be an effective bulwark against abuses in the program. Oh, and the FISA court which literally never denies them any of their secret requests and grants them ever broader powers whenever they request it in secret rulings.

Oh yeah, that shiat is totes under control. Big 'ol checks and balances. Uh huh. Ayup.

Wouldn't have been a problem if they posted the bill for a long enough time period so that people could see what was in it before it was passed.

I know! Didn't Obama swear that every bill would be posted online long enough for us to read it before he signed it into law?

Guess which committees have members from both sides of the aisle?  Go ahead, guess.
