That is more than I made last week.

Probably less than she paid for rehab though.

Okay, which one of you was in the group of  the 3010 people who paid to see it?
Fess up now.

Sounds about right for a small indie film, I think.

Lindsay Lohan is attractive for a 50 year old, I'll give her that.

She's well on her way to co-starring in Sharknado 4: The Return Home

Dear Lindsay Lohan,

You should have done this movie 8 years ago.  If you had, I would have definitely gone to see it...

... or at least download clips off the internet.

Actually (going by Box Office Mojo), it grossed $13,000 it's opening weekend (this is the 2nd weekend). It only opened in 1 theater but branched out to 4 this past weekend.

Also did it cost $25,000 or $250,000? That's going to make a huge difference in whether this is profitable and the Daily Fail can't seem to report anything right.

/Everyone already saw your tits in Playboy and stills from this on the internet
//No one's going to pay for your softcore porn Lohan

Come onnnnn Vivid!

This has to piss off a lot of legitimate actors out there who aren't junkies with constant immunity.

That's my thing. There are tons of girls out there looking for a shot who could probably act circles around her and not be a farking trainwreck.

I think it was only released on screen for oscar consideration.  Otherwise it's just a straight to vid.  I wish I was kidding.

Really. I don't see it. I mean, when she's cleaned up she's attractive, sure but not terribly special. She isn't anyone's daughter. She's not even Jewish. I'm not getting the Hollywood royalty she's garnering.

So when a studio intentionally kills a film by putting it on fewer screens than exist in most small towns..... is it really anyone elses fault?

It's only open in 1-4 theaters (can't quite tell, box office mojo isn't clear).  30k for one theater isn't that bad.  In fact the 13k per theater average listed on their site for opening weekend beats the 9k per theater average for Elysium, and most box office leaders.

That being said, I'm sure it's a shiatty film.  Also, fark the Daily Fail.

Wikipedia says $250,000, but there's no citation.

Per the famous NY Times article about the filming:

Schrader, Pope and Lohan talk details. The film, "The Canyons," has a microbudget, maybe $250,000. Ellis, Pope and Schrader are putting up $30,000 apiece. The rest will be raised on Kickstarter with promises of cameos, script reviews and - for the low, low price of $10,000 - the money clip that Robert DeNiro gave Schrader on the set of "Taxi Driver." . . The actress will get $100 a day and an equal share of the profits, but no vote in decision-making.

and

In a month [on Kickstarter], they raised more than $150,000.

So 3 x $ 30K + $ 150K is about $ 240K. I'd say a $ 250K budget is in the ballpark.

Yeah, but how much of that thirty grand was spent by one person so that id didn't look like a TOTAL failure?

Too bad. This was supposed to be the film that she was supposed to show off her acting chops and let the industry know that she is primed and ready for a comeback. From what you are saying the only industry that will have her after this is the porn industry.

Which isn't such a dismal failure as tDF would lead you to believe, though it isn't very great to be sure.  The point is, it's not like it only made 30k in wide release, and they don't mention that in the article because the article is a piece of trash.

Ohh it's failures all around including the article (it is Daily Fail after all). But when you're biggest marketing draw is "See LiLo's tits!" and everyone who's been on the internet for more than a week has already seen them, you're going to fail. Hell the 2nd biggest acting name is a porn star who's prior biggest success was sticking it in the back door of a teen mom.

Good point.  Still, I can't shake the image of daddy Lohan booking a theater in between court appearances after he gets a tearful call from her.  Though that well is running pretty dry these days, I'd imagine.

Maybe Charlie Sheen was looking to get laid over the weekend and he figured this was the cheapest date.

Given that nobody wants to see LL in a movie, and nobody wants to see a porn star in a soft-core porno, I'd consider this film a modest success and almost a minor miracle that it made more than a buck fiddy

Theater grosses (even given the low screen count right now) are only part of the picture. Remember, it's also released for on-demand and digital purchase, where it's selling fairly well: "the film topped out at number two on iTunes' indie films chart and fluctuated just outside the top 10 over the course of the weekend." I can't find final numbers for VOD sales, unfortunately.

Anyway, discounting the opening weekend/limited release numbers accordingly, even if it can manage $3K to $4K per screen for a week (or even two), and IFC can roll it out to, say, 200 screens in the biggest markets, it'll do just fine. I'm sure it's being distributed digitally, so distribution costs are pretty low, and they're going cheap on the advertising budget, allowing the press buzz to build awareness. In other words, IFC may net a couple thousand bucks per screen on it, making somewhere on the order of $1-2 million from theatrical showings. That would be crippling for even a relatively cheap $25 million Hollywood flick, but its straight-up profit for a $ 250K project.

Add in the VOD revenues, and this will probably put a decent bit of change in everyone involved's pockets.

Maybe not - but when a studio decides to do that, there's usually a good reason - or at least that's what my old buddy, Producer/Director Allan Smithee tells me.

It is one way to get someone like her back on track.  Mel Gibson did it for Robert Downey, Jr: when no one would cast him, Gibson hired him for The Singing Detective; Gibson had to put up the completion bond himself, as Downey was uninsurable.  By proving he could complete a movie, Gibson gave Downey his career back.

Assuming that this was shot when she was still in her full-on "I'm queen of the world" BS, she looks good.  Not what she once was and should be for someone the same age as me, but better than what she has been.

I'm kind of hoping that this last bit of rehab stuck, and finally gave her that push to get things straight.
