Yeah, he bought it with his own money, so, whatever.

If I was that rich though I'd want one of those cool showers that shoots water from all over the place at once.

It's also good for whipping egg whites into stiff peaks.  Tub of meringue?  You're soaking in it!

You can spend 7500 on a bathtub at Pottery Barn. 13K is practically middle class.
Unless it can only be filled and emptied by maids with pitchers. Then it would be awesome.

It's going to be cute when a couple of meth addicts sell it to a "scrap metal" dealer for $800.

I'm going to assume Bloomberg has a pretty decent security setup.

That doesn't sound too safe, I hope it's well grounded, unlike his policies.

I've always wanted copper countertops in a kitchen.

Wouldn't that be kind of impractical? The copper would radiate the heat out of you bath very effectively causing you to have a prematurely cool bath.

Son did you hit your head or something. Guy was elected to serve and sought to change some laws through the democratic process, you don't like those laws? Vote the people who put them in place out!

That he is also rich and can afford to have a new tub put in? Who gives a fark. Seriously pants sniffers complain about something else.

Personally, I don't have a problem with rich people spending their hard earned money irresponsibly - I just don't feel people who exhibit that behavior should be in any governmental leadership positions.

I don't have a problem with rich people spending their money on expensive things.

However he is quite good at telling people in New York how to live.

I bet something about that tub is not up to code, after all New Yorkers can tell him how to live too.

How did this story even hit the papers unless Bloomberg leaked it himself? I'm not outraged, but I do find it contemptible that this smirking little homunculus finds it necessary to brag about his pricey bathtub. Go be insecure somewhere else.

Enemabag Jones: I don't have a problem with rich people spending their money on expensive things.

I don't have a problem with how rich people spend their money. I do have a problem with rich people complaining that their taxes are too high and poor people are a drain on society, while buying expensive things. I have a problem with rich people who bilk and defraud their companies, while buying expensive things.

I'm not saying Bloomberg is one of those, though if he cared about the plight of the New Yorkers he seems to be so concerned about, maybe he should buy a regular bathtub and donate the rest to a local charity.

As has often been said on Fark, in America freedom of choice is not freedom from criticism.

So unless he lives as a pauper he can't say the poor are suffering? Come the fark on. Bloomberg is far from a saint, but critiquing a rich person for being rich is dumb no matter the party.

The bathtub was only $2000. The other $9k was for NYC building permits, fees, paying three guys to get it up the service elevator, and the parking ticket for the delivery truck parked outside his building. But hey, they threw the toll fees in for free.

Why not?

2013-08-12 07:57:09 PM
Is it a high-capacity tub?  That sounds dangerous, it makes it too easy to drown in.  Nobody needs more than 60 gallons of water in a tub, in fact, nobody should have tubs over 60 gallons, and they should only fill them to 50 gallons, lest they overflow.  That type of conductor needs some additional safety-features as well, like a rubber guard between it and any surface that may come into contact with electricity.  And it should be child-proofed, so it needs to be locked up behind baby gates for the children.

I didn't know about this, so I Googled. "egg white copper myth" comes up dry, while I am finding hundreds of results from food and science sites saying it is fact. Can we have a credible site saying it's fiction?
