Oh come on! How can you look at a drawing depicting a fictional character mourning the death of other fictional characters and not be moved?

These two, I think, are the better of the 4 due to seeing the other turtles colors in the actual picture. The other two could just be Mikie or Raph feeling the pain after being beaten but all the Turtles made it out.

Not really news, I remember finding a Turtles graphic novel in the early nineties.  It was all black and white, and very dark in content.

Let's be serious for a minute here. There's no way Donatello or Raphael could possibly be the last men standing. They'd be the first two dead in any fight.

OK, now I am confused.

Ralph wouldn't hide.  If anything, he would be the first to die because he would rush headfirst into battle.  He had almost the same skill level as Leo, but lacked the discipline.

Then Mike or Don would be next and because they are polar opposites of each other (brains vs feelings) I am calling it a toss up.

The only outcome is Leo is left standing.

Agreed, it's surprisingly good.

I still can't retrain my childhood ear to not be confused when Raphael's voice comes out of Donatello, though. Rob Paulsen is a great voice actor, and I actually think he makes a better Donnie, but part of my brain is still six years old and confused whenever he talks.

Overcome good sir. It actually lends itself to the humor and the emotions of the characters.

Sometimes you have eyes with iris', sometimes you have the old school "pure white eyes" from the comic books and sometimes you have just litte dots (usually when they are going for humor).

On top of that, the fights are actually fluid and well though-out and the animation style helps allow for that.

Don't listen to the naysayers, these are great pics, and great art that convey the intense emotions they set out to.

The Leonardo one is by far the most effective one,  though, made especially so if you know the context of the characters.  Leonardo would not just be grieving for his lost brothers, but he would be invariably blaming himself, and hard, for not being a stronger fighter/better leader in order to save them.

He's not referring to the TMNT movie. He's talking about the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles regular series that's on now.

I have a lot of love for the TMNT CGI movie. It's extremely cinematic and for the first time they get to really seem like ninja.
But our friend there is lauding the new cartoon, which is actually quite awesome. Everything is better developed than we remember. They made April a kid, but it works just fine.

You're absolutely right. It would crush Leonardo. And depending on how much Japanese culture their father passed on to them, I wouldn't find it hard to believe that Leo would commit ritual suicide over it.

For sure.  I was about 10 when the old cartoon was on and it used to piss me off with the tameness and the "look, Shredder's getting away!" crap.  And now I'm a guy in his mid-30s enjoying a new Turtles show on Nickelodeon.  Sigh.

On and I did notice the voice of the new Donatello is the same voice as the old Raphael.  Because it was usually him that went "Shredder's getting away" at the end of the show.

Dhusk: The Leonardo one is by far the most effective one, though, made especially so if you know the context of the characters. Leonardo would not just be grieving for his lost brothers, but he would be invariably blaming himself, and hard, for not being a stronger fighter/better leader in order to save them.

You're absolutely right. It would crush Leonardo. And depending on how much Japanese culture their father passed on to them, I wouldn't find it hard to believe that Leo would commit ritual suicide over it.

I agree, I love the movie and the new TV series (the fight scenes were awesome in both, notably turtles vs shred and splinter vs shred in the series and leo v raph in the movie).

The Donnie/April thing really creeps me out though as a huge Don fan.

I prefer my turtles to all wear red. This color-coded shiat is from the crappy cartoon.

And a better image would be all of the turtles dead, with Usagi Yojimbo standing over their corpses.

EdgeRunner: They left off the final painting of that series, where the other turtles find him and realize his addiction to peyote mushroom pizzas has finally led to a full psychotic break.

/next up by the same artist:

Cinderella's glass slipper breaks, driving huge shards into her foot. Infection and gangrene quickly set in due to the general filthiness of the time period, and she dies raving and insane while suffering excruciating pain. Overwhelmed by guilt for helping her go to the ball in the first place, the mice voluntarily feed themselves to alley cats.

Casper the Friendly Ghost is captured by the Ghostbusters, and inside the containment unit he becomes the abused prison b*tch of a thousand nastier spirits.

He-Man finally realizing that a skeleton can't walk or talk, and the entire time he thought he was battling Skeletor, he was actually holed up in a seedy motel with the badly-taxidermied body of the twin brother he had accidentally stabbed to death during a sword practice session. The trauma split He-Man's personality, causing him to alternate between his sissy normal self, an idealized hero self, and a dastardly villain self, the last of which ends up knifing She-Ra in the shower, drowning Orko in a port-a-potty, and sodomizing Beast Man with Ram Man.

That..........that was awesome.

I am old enough to remember seeing a TMNT comic book before they came out big and thought "who would buy this crap?".   Yet when came out, I saw the first series, the movies and had all four Turtle figures.  I only keep up with them now because I have a 12 yro who likes the new series.  Me, I am starting to sound like an old man because they changed the background story.

The new cartoon...

At first i was a little put off by the idea of a CGI series, but the CGI allows them to more easily make the turtles physically distinguishable.

Best part of the show though is the characterization of the four turtles.  Out of all of the series/movies/comics, this is the one time where I'd be perfectly happy just watching the four of them interact for the full half hour.

Also, "Space Heroes" needs it's own show :)

I won't go as far as to say as it is better than the original cartoon, but it is the best one to date since.

Yes, I'm aware that the TMNT started out as more mature in the comics, but unlike Batman which has become defined by a similar origin, TMNT will always be defined by the 90s cartoon.

RAPH FOR LIFE!

Leo = too preachy
Donny = too nerdy
Mikey = too silly

You can never get enough sarcastic badassness.

Plus, as was mentioned, the original black-and-white series was dark as hell, and Raph was the darkest of them all.

I agree with the idea that Raph would either die first (as a result of his impulsiveness/bloodlust) or be the last turtle standing (probably even more messed up psychologically than he's ever been).

It might be the thing that the TMNT originated from. Apparently they began as a B&W comic that was a satire of content from the time.

Makes perfect sense really. They're teenage, mutants, AND ninjas. Then they're turtles, which was done for sillyness.

These two, I think, are the better of the 4 due to seeing the other turtles colors in the actual picture. The other two could just be Mikie or Raph feeling the pain after being beaten but all the Turtles made it out.

Not sure I like the Leo one... the fact that he's down  AFTER wrapping his brothers' masks around his arms is a bit weird... if he were being stoic or something, it might work, but as it is, it looks like he's struggling to get up right after the fight, but that would suggest that he wrapped the masks on during, or something.  Unless it was episodic, and after each fell he took the masks, then hunted the villain down, but it doesn't signify some big final battle.

  Don's is the only one that I like and appreciate for what it's supposed to be.  I could easily see him walking away, leaving his bo and the masks flying like flags in the wind, as a marker or shrine to the price and emptiness of victory (assuming that by one surviving, whomever they fought was defeated)

The new show is fantastic.  It's written well, the fight scenes are choreographed beautifully, and it's full of easter eggs from the old toons, comics and movies... the people making it are definitely hardcore tmnt fans.  Best action toon on right now, IMO.

Are you kidding?  I think its the best damn thing about the show, and I also speak as someone who can count Donatello as his favorite character.

I'm no shipper, but it does add a lot to Donnie's character, easily making him now the most complex and interesting of the turtles.  From high school age on up, we've all been where he is crushing on a girl, so its very easy to sympathize and identify with him.  Plus the crush subplot also added a lot of great humor and interaction among the turtles,with the others often ragging on Donnie about his crush but then turning around at times and trying to help him succeed with April.  Very much like real life brothers.

Besides, they are just a goddam adorable couple sometimes
