And just what do you drive there, selfrighteous submitter? Unless it's an Amish buggy clopping you down to the grist mill every sunrise, then we're all committing the same sin. But, no, go ahead. Wallow in your smugness.

Well, we all know how those damn SUV drivers (me included) are all part of a secret conspiracy to shame less-fortunate others with our conspicuous consumption, warm the globe with our excessive toxic emissions, and create higher gas prices by lowering temperatures to create a larger need for heating oil. At least we don't smell of patchouli, though. That's just nasty.

2004-01-12 01:28:47 AM
I wish they'd raise gas prices to $6 a gal. It would keep idiots and idiot suv drivers off the road. (no I wasn't the submitter)

If you want to know what I drive, I drive a 02 Chevy Camaro, 30/mph and only cost $17,800 new. I can carry as much in my sport coupe as most pavement warriors can in their SUV (i've carried 10 computers, 10 15" monitors, and 5 boxes of accessories in 1 load) (i've carried 40 pcs of 8&10ft. lumber) (i've carried boxed 27" TV) And I've passed SUV's that were skidding off snow covered roads.

2004-01-12 01:40:32 AM
SUV drivers read this.

Send him your hate mail. Tee-hee.

2004-01-12 02:09:01 AM
bwave: I drive a 02 Chevy Camaro, 30/mph.

Slow down there, sonny, before you get someone killed!

BTW, I hope you have the appropriate mullet, which is required of all real camaro owners. Heh Heh

No wonder it was so cheap... 30 mph eh? By the way, what are you towing behind that?

SUVs suck, by the way. But what's worse... an SUV, or a Chevy? ;)
j/k

2004-01-12 03:19:34 AM
Goddamn SUVs. I want to biatch slap all who use them.

2004-01-12 07:41:07 AM
Small cocks and soccer Moms hurt us all at the gas pump.

/happy to have a hybrid

2004-01-12 09:07:55 AM
gas still costs nothing, comparatively speaking. i paid a dollar a gallon and more at times 20 years ago. factor in inflation and gas is cheaper now. i read recently that gas is now cheaper than it was during the 50s, if you figure inflation.

i thought gas prices would drop once we had control of iraq's oil... what gives?

2004-01-12 09:57:24 AM
low_dazzle that's because Bush forgot to suspend the law of supply and demand after we conquered Iraq.

just another indication of how evil a guy he is

OMG TEH GASOLINE BLOOD FOR OIL LOLZ

2004-01-12 12:30:09 PM
A $0.07 per gallon increase?! Quick, let me adjust my budget and see how it will be affected by the +$1.40 or so change in my monthly gas expenditures.

And before you tell me that gas prices affect more than just how much I pay at the pump, I know. I just don't care. I have more important things to worry about, like the efficiency of various ink pens.

2004-01-12 12:51:42 PM
I'm still trying to figure out why PA gas prices are always about 15 cents higher than NJ prices. It's not like gas is a luxury and worthy of extra taxing.

I'm not the submitter, but why do you think that being a car driver means you are not allowed to think a current increase in gas prices is asinine?

2004-01-12 12:56:26 PM
Yay, it's been a while since we had a thread for all the SUV owners to attempt to justify their purchases and SUV haters to spew anecdotal evidence as proof that they're evil.

2004-01-12 01:23:32 PM
Well we agreed to the BLOOD FOR OIL deal.

I want my cheap oil!

2004-01-12 02:07:31 PM
still waiting for my V-12 Lamborghini hybrid....

2004-01-12 03:04:02 PM
To all SUV haters:

I drive an SUV. I don't drive it because of some delusion of exciting offroading adventures that never happen. I drive it because it carries a hell of a lot more stuff.

Tell me a more efficent way to drive a car that can handle moving the every day stuff from, say the Home Depot or other stores, to my house then I'm all into it.

I don't understand why people don't see that most SUV driver DO have practical reasons for driving them. Try moving a couch in your friggin 55 MPG Geo!

Fine, if you never need to move somewhat big things here and there... then buy a small car. Good for you.

But its not that uncommon that people want the space SUV's provide. Its just more practical.

2004-01-12 03:19:58 PM
downstairs, I have nothing against owning a truck or SUV, it's just that for some reason, when most people step into one, they are seemingly mesmorized by their stature over other vehicles. They are now the alpha car. They act as if they own the road. Women in SUVs seem even worse, maybe because it's the only time they're ever taller than everyone else. I realize it's not everyone, but damn it sure as hell is a lot of them. When it comes to people riding your bumper, chaging lanes right in front of you with no signal, and generally being oblivious to others on the road, I probably see 5 SUVs fit this description for every 1 car that does.

Thanks, W & Dick!

2004-01-12 03:50:39 PM
Ever notice how it's commonplace for gas prices to spike 20-30 cents overnight but when prices are declining, they almost never drop by more than a couple cents at a time?

2004-01-12 03:52:13 PM
SUVs use more gas. This increases demand. Increased demand means increased production. Increased production means lower prices.

biatch about high gas prices, or biatch about SUVs; you can't biatch about both.

2004-01-12 03:52:27 PM
There is a 7 cent difference in prices from street to street. Get your gas at walmart you cheap farks.

2004-01-12 03:53:12 PM
The oil companies are gouging us at the pump. Of that there is no doubt.

The only entity there is powerful enough to protect the American people from gouging, greedy oil executives is the Federal Government.

Lord help us if the Oil companies ever own people in positions of power in the Federal Government....

Do you see where I'm going?

2004-01-12 03:53:29 PM
Big farking deal. You pay more for a beer and a bottle of water than you pay for gas.

2004-01-12 03:53:51 PM
Thank heaven my car uses a Flux Capacitor. 1.2 gigawatts, baby !

I hope Brett Farve will be able to play this Sunday in spite of this.

2004-01-12 03:55:22 PM
How many countries do we need to invade before we get cheap gas?

/flame on

2004-01-12 03:55:56 PM
Gas prices rising? Didn't notice as I haven't bought gasoline since March. Too bad (for me) that diesel prices are on the rise as well. And no, I'm not running biodiesel through my $6000 engine. No way.

2004-01-12 03:56:01 PM
It's still cheaper than bottled water.

But regardless, I think that the next time everyone fills their tank, they should biatch at the poor guy working in the store. Because that is how gas prices get lowered.

/Sarcasm
/Works for an oil company. Drives a company car. Never pays for fuel.

2004-01-12 03:56:18 PM
If you don't like the gas price hikes, the solution is simple.

Buy Oil Company Stock!

That way, all fuel price hikes go back into your pocket! You can gloat evilly just like the big boys at Haliburton!

BTW, factoring inflation into the process, we are actually paying LESS out of our income than before for energy.

Remember, in "the good old days" you remember your dad paying 19 cents/gallon, but he probably only made $45/week salary!

I, as a 19 year old male, blame the cheap labor conservatives.

2004-01-12 03:58:09 PM
downstairs

Rent a truck (Home Depot, $20 for 90 minutes flat rate). The monthly payment difference between an average sedan and an average SUV will allow you to rent a truck every weekend. Or how about this. Get a minivan. Most of the newer minivans seats come out so that you can fit a bloody LAWN TRACTOR in the back.

The reason is status and the superiority you feel in creating those tire-depressions in the asphalt in parking lots. (I used 'in' three times in one sentence, I know)

2004-01-12 03:58:25 PM
Quit yer biatchin'

Since I've been living in Germany, I've noticed that (even though I don't drive here), gas is a hell of a lot more expensive here. Let's say you can get it for 1.05 Euros a Liter (that's a good price).

Calculations:
1.05 x 3.78 = 3.969 Euros per gallon.

Factor in the current exchange rate:
$5.082 a gallon

2004-01-12 03:59:07 PM
"Increased demand means increased production."

Not really.

"Increased production means lower prices."

Not for an unrenewable resource.

Before anyone goes off the deep-end defending their purchases, I honestly don't care what you drive. However, you do have to drive it well. Please take some lessons and extend some courtesy while behind the wheel.

2004-01-12 03:59:33 PM
in other news, the economy is recovering...

[/sarcasm]

2004-01-12 03:59:35 PM
Keep on raising the gas prices. It doesn't matter. Americans will keep guzzling it up until:

"Whoops, what happened to all the oil? How come no one told me it would run out? Oh well, nice while it lasted. Guess we'll have to change our entire transportation infrastructure... That won't cost much."

2004-01-12 03:59:42 PM
The Unelected Bush Fraud is turning a blind eye to his buddies in the oil industry profitting at our expense.

How is this different than a tax?

We're just paying increased taxes to Bush's oil buddies, and cutting out the IRS middleman.

Same thing....money is being sucked out of our pockets by greedy republican bastards. Except they're not even pretending it'll go for needed services. It's all going to Exxon/Mobil's bottom line.

Fark these corrupt neocons!!!! FARK THEM!!!!

2004-01-12 03:59:43 PM
I don't mind SUVs other then you can't see around them.

Especially when turning right onto a major road and the SUV is turning left, even though they are 40 feet high, they always feel the need to pull out futher then you.

Backing out of parking spots is like a faith experiment.

2004-01-12 03:59:46 PM
We have highest gas price in the country. 2.85/g. Quit your biatching.

Kailua - Kona, Hawaii

I don't understand why people don't see that most SUV driver DO have practical reasons for driving them.

I don't hate much, let alone SUVs, so perhaps I'm not qualfied. Can and Do are distant relatives. Is Home Despot an everyday use? Not for me it isn't.

2004-01-12 04:00:29 PM
yeah, but your in freaking hawaii, quit YOUR biatchin'

2004-01-12 04:00:38 PM
In other news, 1,000 jobs created in December. Just a bit short of the 300,000/month promised after the last tax cut for the top 1% of the country.

2004-01-12 04:00:50 PM
get over yourselves.

2004-01-12 04:01:23 PM
2004-01-12 03:52:13 PM syberghost

Remember, oil is not produced in a rational market. OPEC can manipulate the price. Increased demand for oil can just as likely result in decreased supply, resulting in an even greater price increase.

2004-01-12 04:01:25 PM
Gas prices. What an odd thing to be so consistently newsworthy. Has anyone really ever thought, "Damn, all my plans are ruined because gas just went up/down seven cents a gallon?"

2004-01-12 04:01:36 PM
And don't get me started on why cars still only get 25 mpg.
