Not to mention Star Blazers and Ultraman. I destroyed several entire cities on the inspiration from those shows alone.

Junior year in college, I'm majoring in music and it's my music history 2 final covering most of the 1800s. I walk into the room and professor has a TV set up. He presses play on the VCR and iit's "Kill da Wabbit" and "The Rabbit of Seville"

The two cartoons play and the professor hands out blue books and says only "compare and contrast"

Welp, that about does it. I've finally read an article so stupid that it broke the internet.

Please tell me this was merely a failed attempt at humor.

Gosling: The Gary Coleman Show, anyone? Where Gary is dead and now he's an angel in heaven?

Well, now he is.

"9 Incredibly Reckless Classic Cartoons We'd Never Let Our Kids Watch Now"

If by "we" they mean your average HuffPo contributor, then this likely isn't satire.

TheZorker: Come on. At least Speed Racer was part of a completely functional family.

The WORLD was nuts, but Pops, Mom, Trixie, Speed, they *all* supported each other. Hell, Trixie was even the spotter and flew a helicopter.

Trixie was the cousin of Speed in the original Japanese version. But it's OK there.

100 Watt Walrus: Ambivalence: I am surprised GI Joe wasn't on that list. Glamorizing war where enemy pilots always "eject" before their planes exploded and no one actually dies. Plus there was always some namby pamby "knowing is half the battle" morality play at the end.

This. And the stories and voice performances were just awful. (The namby-pamby was slapped on so the show could be claimed to have educational content, back when the FAA had rules with some teeth.)

What weirded me out most about GI Joe was how, in the post-ep message segment, the Joe's would always show up in the creepiest way possible. Kid doing something dangerous in the bathroom? Joe comes out of their shower. Something dangerous in the kitchen? There's a Joe already in his house. Comes across a downed power-line? Here's some Joes in a friggin black, window-tinted van to give them some advice. And why were they spying on these kids in the first place? The Joes have some serious explaining to do.

I'm not sure what's more embarrassing. The failed "satire" of the article (mocking the 1990's PC overreaction to old cartoons? Even a Leno monologue is more topical than this Dane Cook level of unfunny), or MadAzza's furious whiteknighting of it.

Unless... MadAzza is really just satirising the kind of smug tools who defend bad satire? Whoah... That's some real heavy meta through the Inception glass wizardry there. My mind just blew itself, like a sexytime mental Ouroboros.

I've had my kids watch most of this stuff. It really doesn't stand the test of time or hold their interest. Except Tom and Jerry for some reason. The 9yo loves it.
