Yep

I watched most of those when I was younger, with a few exceptions, mainly the new cartoons & that's only because they didn't exist when I was a kid. However, I let my son watch all of those when he was a kid & if I had a kid nowadays they'd get to watch them too.

I am surprised GI Joe wasn't on that list. Glamorizing war where enemy pilots always "eject" before their planes exploded and no one actually dies. Plus there was always some namby pamby "knowing is half the battle" morality play at the end.

2013-08-12 12:50:39 AM
Welp, that about does it. I've finally read an article so stupid that it broke the internet.

Please tell me this was merely a failed attempt at humor.

2013-08-12 02:43:52 AM
I have always argued that the best thing we can do for the whiny assed new generation is to put violence back into cartoons.   So now, rather than having a tool to weed out those too dumb to figure out that you can't really fly by strapping rockets on your feet, or that swallowing dynamite is probably a dramatic tool and not to be tried at home, we have hour after hour of "unsupervised child smartasses" on TV, primarily produced by Disney.   And kids can't figure out that being a smartass all the time is bad, because there are no immediate repercussions.

Well that was a crap article.

2013-08-12 03:07:19 AM
Tried reading the entire thing, after finishing the rant about Speed Racer, I just looked to see what other cartoons were on the list.  When it came to He-Man, either the writer of that section never watched He-Man, or just didn't get it.  Randor never knew Adam was He-Man, so how the hell was he supposed to be proud about his son saving the world when he had no idea?  If you want a bad example, it's not the clearly homosexual superhero and how he's treated because he's treated very well.  How about we address that Skeletor is never ever punished for what he does.  He kidnaps a member of the royal family and after said member is rescued, Skeletor is free to go.  The royal palace has prisons and dungeons, but who are they for?  Does Randor only concern himself with imprisoning the tax cheats?  Kidnap the Captain of the Guard, what ever He-Man did to you is fine?  Oh, he did nothing, well, you're free to go.  Not pay taxes?  To the dungeon!!!

The bit about Fat Albert, I heard that same thing when that failed live action movie came out almost 10 years ago, but it was a doctor who wanted the movie renamed to "Morbidly Obese Albert".

This is why they're "classic" cartoons. Cartoons people still want to watch usually don't get that qualifier. It's saved for old cartoons that have become completely lost on modern audiences. "Classic" is just a nice way of saying "outdated".

2013-08-12 03:15:42 AM
Come on. At least Speed Racer was part of a completely functional family.

The WORLD was nuts, but Pops, Mom, Trixie, Speed, they *all* supported each other. Hell, Trixie was even the spotter and flew a helicopter.

Precious Roy's Horse Dividers: I am assuming that was supposed to be satire, but it was just stupid. I guess the libby lib sites can also spectacularly fail at humor.

That's my take, although the He-Man thing was kinda cute the rest just tried a little too hard and never got me to so much as smile.

Of course seeing people in this thread who thinks the article might actually be serious is worthy of a chuckle or two.

This. And the stories and voice performances were just awful. (The namby-pamby was slapped on so the show could be claimed to have educational content, back when the FAA had rules with some teeth.)

I still watch and love old Tom and Jerry cartoons, especially the episodes where they're in the city, or on the space station. It's not about violence, it's about the tug of war between self rule and totalitarianism, and the role of technological developments on that conflict. Note how common it is for the episodes to end with Tom and Jerry making peace with each other. In order to evolve as individuals within society, they must have that conflict, and they both intuitively understand this.

Jesus Christ. Unwad your shorts, gentlemen. IT'S SATIRE.

Even the people who claim they know it's satire can't handle it. "Well, it's dumb, then. Hurr durr." No, it's not, but what are you?

Any satirical piece that hooks as many as this one did is a work of near-genius, by definition.

Seriously, guys, calm the fark down.

You responded; therefore, if it were "trolling," that would make it a 10/10.

You admit that you think it's "trolling," which means you don't recognize obvious satire.

For a website that deals in comedy, Farkers have never been good at recognizing satire.

2013-08-12 04:54:52 AM
I'm not sure what's more embarrassing. The failed "satire" of the article (mocking the 1990's PC overreaction to old cartoons? Even a Leno monologue is more topical than this Dane Cook level of unfunny), or MadAzza's furious whiteknighting of it.

Unless... MadAzza is really just satirising the kind of smug tools who defend bad satire? Whoah... That's some real heavy meta through the Inception glass wizardry there. My mind just blew itself, like a sexytime mental Ouroboros.
