Stoners just can't stop talking about weed. THAT'S the part that I don't like. I don't give a shiat if you smoke it, for for Gozer's sake,  stop talking about it all the farking time!  It's an obsession with you people, to the point that some potheads can ONLY talk about weed. Legalizing it, which is the best, which is the worst, what they did when they were stoned, what they did to get stoned, where they hide it, why The Man won't let them smoke it, how it cures everything under the sun, how it's good for you, how hemp would totally be awesome for making clothes if only it were legal, and so on and so forth. ALL DAMNED DAY.

WE GET IT, MOTHERFARKERS. You like being stoned. So shut the fark up about it and go get stoned. Stop babbling about it, stop whining about it, and just go do it. Leave the rest of us out of it.

And for fark's sake, keep it to your own premises and turn on a fan, because some of think that shiat smells like you're lighting dog farts.

Well, California borders Mexico, and pot was being brought across the border and smoked by scary brown Mexicans immigrating to California (one of the reasons it was banned, besides of course that in other, less Mexicany places black people had also started smoking it) so that makes sense.

actually many of the people pushing for legalization aren't stoners, they want it legalized because of pots medicinal uses.

On the day Dr. Gupta had his TV show. It makes one wonder if the authoritarians will ever allow this to happen?

I say no. The backlash is happening. Cops are stepping up anti-marijuana operations and the feds have not slowed in persecuting ( yes, I didn't misspell prosecuting ) the casual or medicinal growers and users.

The military-industrial complex has the law enforcement sector of its operations that are entirely and criminally hidden. No one questions the local cops. No one. And when you control things locally you control everything. This is how the authoritarians have managed to remain in complete power. Add the racism and fear so easily manipulated by pastors and preachers, parents councils and police unions, there is a barrier that will be near impossible to breach.

The Plutocrats will cut your Social Security before they ever cut the DEA.

I think that's mostly in the new / younger crowd. I know tons of people who smoke regularly (read: daily) and we don't even talk about it while smoking. It's like grabbing a beer, you just pack a bowl or roll a joint. Except you have to share it.

Of course it's good for cancer patients suppressing nausea. There ARE medical uses for mj. But it doesn't help that cause that folks pushing it look like they smoke it. I'm just saying, I support them the same way folks pushing the medical uses of alcohol did during Prohibition. Let's stop playing some stupid game where you have to justify it.

@Digital Coffee

Gupta's report was very well produced and researched:

Included the history of the ban, from the "gentleman" pictured above.
Gave examples of moderate THC level marijuana giving theraputic results to people with certain types of conditions that conventional cocktails of big pharmaceutical creations couldn't give adequate and/or safe relief for.
Showed that high Cannaboid level and very low level THC strains of marijuana could be useful in treating seizures in children as young as 5 in the most severe cases where traditional treatments failed to do anything at all.
Said that 9% of users can get habitually addicted to Marijuana, however showed that almost every other drug has a higher level of addiction percentage whether through physcial or mental/habitual addiction.
Suggested that the higher levels of THC (16-23%) strains of MJ, could be developmentally damaging to users between the age of 16 and 24, and the reason that most people previously weren't getting addicted or developmentally damaged before, was because the average level of THC was between 1 and 3%, and today's strains average 15% and can go as high as 28-30% THC.
Also showed that long term usage of moderate THC level MJ eventually get over the time/reaction time discrepancy, allowing them to drive at 95% unimpairment as compared to the once a week user of even lower level THC concentration MJ that could barely navigate (about 20% capacity to drive) in a parking lot situation.
Furthermore there was some indication that many more diseases, including some forms of cancer, can be treated successfully with MJ, in conjuction with more traditional medicines to have a much better success rate than without the drug, although these trials have only just begun in Israel and currently are not being pursued in the US.
Finally he adressed the complicated government agency distribution of authority and the complexity of navigating through the various agencies to get the authorization to do research and get funding, although the various agency directors said that they were not completely against the notion of allowing research to take place on the subject, and in fact several interviewed researchers and doctors actually had pursued several studies beginning in 2008 and 2011 respectively after navigating those complex agency requirements.

So it was a rational, well researched, well presented, interesting hour of fact based information, which of course will be quickly relegated to the memory hole as it doesn't jibe with the "popular wisdom" of the "war on drugs".
