Mitch Mitchell: Make it night school only.  Negro kids are harder to hit in the dark.

But what about all those night fighters?

pedobearapproved: ShawnDoc: Yup, not too many kids going to school on a Sat night during summer break.

I think the idea is that if murders are routinely happening on the "safe route" it might not be that safe, even a whole two weeks later when school gets back in session.  It's not like these maps are sending them past "murder club" that's only open 9 pm to 2 am, weekends only.

Yeah, but the reason the route is considered a "safe route" is that they'll have police and volunteers patrolling the street during the times kids are walking to/from school, thus making it safe.  What happens on a Sat night when there are no volunteers or special police patrols going on is really irrelevant.

Clearly, this is all the fault of someone deciding that the people of Illinois should need a FOID card to legally own a weapon. If we weren't required to have a FOID card, none of there murders would happen.

What the guy in the article was doing is illegal in all 50 states.  More gun laws would not have stopped him.

Hush, you. We're trying to tell conservatives what they think, so we can win the argument by tearing down the strawman we're building.

EyeballKid: Disgruntled Goat: Declare the gangs a terrorist threat, which they are.

Use federal funds and all the resources that become available with that classification to wipe them out. As in, maintaining our War on Terror and using military force.

Simplistic, but conceptually feasible.

Congratulations, you just made appointing Laura Bush as a liaison to stopping gang violence among youths seem like a good idea.

Sorry. What I meant to say was, "continue things as they are and let poor families and business owners in these areas who have no choice in the matter become prey for the increasingly powerful gangs, allowing the whole problem spread as the gangs grow larger and bolder."

Oh, and maybe build some more basketball courts.

It's been so long since I was in Chicago that I remember when Cabrini Green was safe unless you said Candyman three times.

My bad.  Carry on.

over_and_done: cman: I like Chicago's new slogan: Not as much of a shiathole as Detroit

My "safe passage" route works wonderfully:  from one terminal of O'Hare airport to another terminal.  There's always a bit of tension over whether the inevitable delay will turn into an overnight stranding, but eventually I always manage to escape that Godforsaken city.

The people of Chicago thank you for keeping your lazy, uninformed ass out of their city. If you're scared of the route from O'Hare to downtown then you're probably better off never visiting a city of more than 100,000 people.

...and falling.

Happy to avoid a gang-run shiathole whose only claim to fame is that they don't suck as bad as Detroit.

You should avoid visiting NYC because of Brownsville, San Francisco because of the Tenderloin, and LA because of Compton.

In fact, you're probably better off sticking to small farm towns, with maybe a few stops in some well to do suburbs.
