It's Lakewood. The kids are playing with their parent's real guns, not displaying toys.

Oh it's gonna take a LOT more than banning toy guns to fix Lakewood

vpb: FloydA: Toy guns can be realistic enough to scare people -- and draw potentially deadly fire from a police officer. Now the city of Lakewood wants to get tougher on those who display toy guns.

Wouldn't it be easier to teach the cops not to shoot kids playing with toys?

Not if the "toys" look like real guns and the "kids" are the same age as people committing crimes with real guns.

That's what I'm thinking, and the way that they're being 'played' with would make a big difference too.  A few 10 year olds running around with Old West style chrome revolvers playing Cowboys and Indians in someone's yard is pretty harmless.  A few 16 year olds with a realistic looking Glock replica 'playing' by waving it around at other motorists is another story.

That would make sense here in Florida.  Do you really want your kids pointing a toy gun at some self appointed neighborhood watchman who might fear for his life?

I don't know why anybody would use a toy gun at all these days.

Not that they shouldn't or that people who own toy guns deserve to be arrested, but it seems like the odds of someone going into an overblown panic over it are too high.

Pretty much.  If you see the Seattle PI banner on the left there, you'd be better off highlighting part of the headline and finding another source.  The PI makes the DailyFail look like insightful journalism.

Pretty much this.  The Seattle Times is only slightly to the left, but the PI was the MSNBC of Seattle...and people wondered why it failed as a newspaper.

Fun Fact of the day:  Lakewood is the city constantly shown on the show COPS (and the immediate surrounding areas)...but it only has the 2nd highest crime rate per capita in Washington.  The #1 per capita is actually Auburn...but they didn't want the stigma of being on the show and declined to be filmed.

In what universe has The Seattle Times ever been "slightly to the left"?

Also the PI had been around in one form or another for 146 years. So I wouldn't exactly say it failed! The internet has been slowly killing the print versions of newspapers for years.

Given your posting history, you wouldn't. You're one of those folks who seem to think government/laws fixes everything [and further hurr durr durr.]

Why do people even say idiotic s**t like this?  "Oh your won of those poeple whot fink bluh bluh bluh..."

Claiming that you know what someone else thinks doesn't do anything to refute the other person's point of view.  It only makes you look like an idiot.  Do you not realize this?  Are you unaware that when you claim to be able to read someone's mind, you automatically out yourself as a brainless nincompoop?

You DO NOT know what other people are thinking.  Ever.  So don't try to tell people what they think; it makes you look stupid.

Sorry for the rant, I just get pissed off by that.  Tell me what you think and I'll listen, but don't tell me what I think.

What the heck.
Playing with toy guns doesn't cause a huge threat. I've played with Nerf guns and Super Soakers, I haven't turned into a mass murderer. Like my friends says "Video games don't make kids violent, crappy parenting does." Same concept can be applied to toy guns.

Maybe after they perfect that cure for Down Syndrome, but until then, I don't think it's possible to teach cops much of anything.

Someone got his ass beat when he was told to place his hands behind his back and refused, didn't he?

Newsflash retard...obey the orders they give, and you won't get tazed next time...your cop hate just oozes "I was a douchebag once for NO REASON!"

I see you still love sucking the LEO peener.

Can't wait to see the final bill language.  It will probably also ban possessing a thumb and forefinger because these can be made into a gun shape.  And all pop-tarts must be chewed from the top down, lest they be eaten into a vague sideways "L".

But how am I supposed to get the most enjoyment out of my toy gun if I can't point it at another person and pretend I'm shooting them down?
