Ah, Manos...

Torgo's theme was so good, the producers of A Single Man stole the theme for their film.

This is the first MST3K movie I ever watched, and it still holds a special place in my heart. A weird, special place.

So, the film title translates into "Hands: The Hands of Fate". Saw this live with Rifftrax earlier this year. Comedy gold.

I can see the elements of Torgo's Theme in it, but was it really influenced directly?

I always loved when they reference Torgo's Theme in Agent for H.A.R.M.

Fun fact, this movie was made with a camera that didn't record sound and could only hold 30 seconds of film.

And the guy who played Torgo built his own prop to represent his cloven feet (which is mostly cut off in the MST3K cut). The prop was severely uncomfortable, and he started taking painkillers. He got addicted and this eventually lead to his death.

Actually, that last fact isn't fun at all.

This was filmed in El Paso, where I grew up, but many years before we moved there. The Scenic Mountain Drive early in the movie is one of the recognizable parts of it.

There was an article I found on the Net somewhere from the El Paso Times about how the filmmakers had premiered it in the city and invited some top politicians, who wound up aghast at how awful this movie was. I think they got tax breaks and stuff to do it.

Manos is a legendarily classic MST3k episode but it's not especially good for beginners. Like the Coleman Francis flicks, it has the distinction of being too awful for even the Satellite of Love crew to redeem unto watchability. I've known many a newcomer to be just flat put off by Manos to the point that they would never watch MST3k again.

For Torgo's sake, if someone asks for a good one to start with, try Overdrawn at the Memory Bank, The Final Sacrifice or Space Mutiny. Manos is just too strong for newbies.

/just lookin' after the place while the Master is away

He didn't make them himself. In fact, the problem with them was that he was wearing them backwards.

He also killed himself before the movie was even released.

So... so I told Gary that I was going on this vacation so he goes "Well, then I'm going hunting with Jeff next weekend." Well, that's when we were at Knives, and then Lou sang 'Fernando' and then Gary, oh, he sings so good, oh, you should meet Jeff some time... Do you like Barry Manilow songs? I know the farmers need rain, but when it's damp like this my hair just explodes just ex-PAH-LO-des! Ooh, ooh, feeling kinda gassy, McNuggets, you know they make me so gassy, all that grease, and all it really helps if you drink eight-ten glasses of water a day, did you know that? Sometimes I drink five, sometimes I drink nine just to make up for the other three I didn't drink, coffee and diet drinks don't count either. You know, this is pretty country, isn't it? You know, it's really kind of a blessing in disguise that I didn't get accepted to college, you know, I'm going to have to revise my twenty-year plan, but did I tell you about my 20-year plan? Okay, well, okay, listen here, in year one, this is the year when I'm going to take off those extra seven pounds, you know that's equal to seven pounds of butter haha! So it's like I'm wearing seven pounds of butter! Ha! And well, uh oh, where was I, oh, oh yeah, so my aunt and uncle here, they did celebrate their twentieth anniversary and my uncle wanted to sing 'Sunset Sunrise' and he wanted me to sing it and I haven't sung that since Cindy's wedding and well she never thanked me for that... well she's really busy and all.

LrdPhoenix: He also killed himself before the movie was even released.

Due to his addiction, however. He got really farked up on those drugs. I forgot, it was one of the other actors who made the satyr legs.

Joel is in Atlanta this weekend to do some riffing with the Cineprov group here. They're supposed to do Star Trek: The Wrath of Khan tomorrow night and I am thinking about going.
