Nice.

Once again proving that "Yakety Sax" makes any internet video a winner.

I realize he didn't want to hurt it, but he probably could have gotten a little speed and "tapped" the ram to get him to back off.  Or the rider could have just tried to get around him quickly, the ram wouldn't be able to catch the bike after a few feet.

2013-08-09 09:16:16 PM
I kept wondering the same thing - he didn't want to hurt it, but he could have just stayed with his bike and waited until it baked off a few feet and darted past.  But then, I suppose if you're in that situation you're thinking more along the lines of, "Holy shiat, there's a goddamn RAM trying to head-butt me!"

Seeing as it knocked him off the bike the first time it attacked, I think he was worried about being struck in the side as he tried to pass. I would have been :)

When I was a kid, our neighbor raised goats.  They would get out of the pen and every once in a while, I'd be in the yard and turn around and a goat would be uncomfortably close staring at me with those freaky goat eyes.

Once I saw one of his goats on a long chain, tangled up around a bunch of little stumps.  He was so tangled he couldn't stand up.  So I slowly untangled him and he immediately head butted me for helping him.

Heh, odd that the goat had no fear whatsoever of the motorbike, but was scared out of its wits by a stick.

He had no problem grabbing it by the goddamned horns!

The "Run up and grab it's horns" thing was simultaneously utterly fearless and completely insane. I don't know for certain what I'd do in that situation, but "charge the ram" is probably not it.

And I'm 100% certain if I were that guy I'd be carrying pepper spray from there on out.

I can understand not wanting to harm animals... but if it were me, I'd as soon assume the goat would PROBABLY survive a full-speed kick to the snout.

I highly doubt there is any speed kick you could deliver in a downwards motion to a goat's snout or head that would harm it more than a rutting duel. Upwards? Yeah I'm pretty sure I could kill it with one blow if I were in riding boots.

If he would just leave the ram's biatches alone there would be no problem.

I Couldn't turn my bike around as I was on a steep hill & if I did he would have charged me side on which could have broken my leg. This guy is known for his aggression & attacks for no reason, he's even attacked a group of pig hunting dogs. In the end I had to pick up a branch & wave it in front of him, he didn't like the noise & backed off enough for me to make my escape.

The vast majority of my greens have been when I was not in Total Fark.

Total Fark does have some advantages for greens:
1) You can see the entire queue, meaning you can see if someone has submitted the same story from a different link with a better headline and earlier in the queue
2) You can better judge the depth of the queue - I am pretty sure at various times of the day when the queue has been neglected, a modmin just goes through and flushes the whole thing.
3) You can get an appreciation of the range of humor of submitters and I think that can help getting greened
4) You can submit a link that has already been submitted, possibly still in the queue, possibly with better humor

And yes, many links I submit on day n, are redlit and some much suckier version of it is greened on day n+3. -- Welcome to FARK.

(They definitely should have green this: "There's strontium and cesium and elemental tritium, which is considered less dang'rous released into the oc-e-an. These are the only ones of which measured in the harbor, It does not pose a health threat yet, the ocean is still farther")

)

The other thing Total Fark gave me is realizing how many times each story is submitted, sometimes the same link. Your headline may have been better, but the video itself may have already been submitted several times and redlit.

I think sometimes modmins need to see a link several times to convince them it's interesting, or maybe modmin A has a very different sense of what to green the modmin B, and there are conspiracy theories that links may be red until they see a TF submit them, but I've never seen any evidence of that (it would be almost impossible to collect such evidence.)

There is also the fact a TFer seeing the queue, seeing the redlit gets a great idea of what stories are out there and can resubmit with a different headline a day or so later once the story has more traction around the net.
