America won the war against these two.

He's actually not alive.  He's basically embalmed and has a street value roughly equivalent to Spain's debt.

You know - you'd think after a decade or so you could safely assume that the war was either won or lost, or at least start trying to find someone to ask about it..

This is terribly sad for the son.  His father and the jungle are his entire world, and soon half of his world will be dead.  There's next to no chance he can acclimate to mainstream society at his age.  Best to stick him back in the jungle.  He will be alone but at least his world will make snese.

Why should his world make sense when ours doesn't?

Possible. Such things have happened.

OTOH, I am reminded of the "lost tribe" discovered in the Philippines during the Marcos era.

Ahhhh, the nasty head of "Saigon" Keith Richards has risen again. Rap was born during an opium heroin haze of near death. Saigon was on the bleeding edge of the movement.

Wait until they here about Generalissimo Francisco Franco...

Finished Street without Joy by Bernard Fall a while back. Article made me think of those French commandos abandoned when the French pulled out of Vietnam. Always wondered  how long those guys held out going native with the Montanagrds up in the mountains......

Wonder if there are any Americans who decided to go "native" and are still out there somewhere.  I know for a fact that some thought about it.  Don't think anyone did, but you never know.

They should have just left them there. They were getting by and were not really affecting anybody.

Now it will be hospitals and medication for anxiety. The old guy is gonna drop in a few weeks tops,
