Kneeshaw's attorney, John Trevena, said this was a good resolution to the case, and that "only a fool" would have balked at writing the letter.

It's better than getting beaten to death for "resisting"

the videographer wouldn't get out of the way

man named Arthur Dixon had doused himself with gasoline and was threatening to set himself afire.

So, the guy the cops shot was wanting to kill himself anyway, and the cameraman wasn't keeping his distance.

So he was rightfully charged, and the cops didn't do anything wrong.

Eamonn Kneeshaw, 64, was charged with obstruction after a St. Petersburg police officer said the videographer wouldn't get out of the way
Kneeshaw denied he was obstructing or interfering, he said he was just showing up to film whatever happened and had stayed behind police tape. He said officers didn't object until he began filming Dixon's mother, who later criticized the police by saying they overreacted in killing her son.

This seems pretty cut and dry if he was filming the whole time. Either the video evidence supports the police or it supports the 64 year old man. Having not seen the video, I would give the 64 year old man the benefit of the doubt nearly every time.

Makes you wonder where the video ended up.

Cheney politely asked him to move out of the way with a blast of birdshot to the face.

He's that guy what got shot in da face by Dick Cheney and had to apologize publicly TO Cheney for getting shot, because it was politically necessary.

Now, full context is that birdshot-face there was engaged in unsafe practices and it was partially his fault, (hunting safety is a whole  thing and I'm on mobile) but it's still iconic of adding insult to injury and making the victim apologize for being victimized.

And that's okay, because it's funny.

Only a fool would write a letter of apology.

/Stupid reporter.

Now this is how you deal with uppity coppers, by publishing the whole ordeal. In other news: Reporter mysteriously dies from King Cobra attack near Seattle Metro station.

Charges were dropped, so I am sure the accidentally deleted video supported the old man.

My apology letter:

I'm sorry I am forced to sue you in federal court for violation my right to film your police action.

42 U.S.C. § 1983, commonly referred to as "section 1983" provides:

Every person who under color of any statute, ordinance, regulation, custom, or usage, of any State or Territory or the District of Columbia, subjects, or causes to be subjected, any citizen of the United States or other person within the jurisdiction thereof to the deprivation of any rights, privileges, or immunities secured by the Constitution and laws, shall be liable to the party injured in an action at law, Suit in equity, or other proper proceeding for redress

That's the old man that Dick Cheney SHOT IN THE FACE while hunting. Then Cheney made the poor old dude go out and apologize.  (presumably for blocking his shot)

If you have a camera of any kind, you're obstructing; interfering; that might be a gun; only terrorists have cameras; stop resisting...  even if you're behind fences and/or further away than other spectators.

You're guilty of assaulting an officer with your face except in the rare cases where there is a second photographer who isn't apprehended for the offense of filming.

You will be incarcerated, threatened or actually charged with serious offenses until you 'confess' so that you're not able to sue.

I did RTFA, nitwit. His word against theirs. Had he been standing across the street filming, and not approached the mom until after police had donje [whatever they needed to do], I'd be on his side. I'm guessing, however, since the police were still there (i.e., at an active scene) when he started filming the mom that he either didn't stay behind the tape, as he says, or wound up being a nuisance in some other way.

Like others have noted: if he was filming, why didn't he release the tape as evidence the police overstepped their bounds? If the police confiscated the tape, as no doubt someone might surmise, why didn't he protest that?

Or, more reasonably, he knew they had a case against him and he was unwilling to risk up to a year in jail.

Or, hey, believe everything you read on first blush. Because no one has EVER exaggerated or lied about their encounters with the police.

Not saying the police don't also lie, just that I'm not going to take his word for it with ZERO supporting evidence.

Until he does provide such evidence, Eamonn can EABOD.

So you disagree with me, but don't care what I think, but have now written twice in response to what I think.

OK then.
