Hey I know! Let liberals take a page from the conservative playbook. Require a licensed doctor on staff at all CPC's that is responsible for ALL advice given. That doctor must have a license I practice in the state and malpractice insurance. They are liable for malpractice based on the center's advice.

The lulz would be epic.

Actually, from what I can see, it is only the tax dollars of individuals who already believe this way.  They are only funded through the extra money collected from the sale of "pro life" license plates.

NkThrasher: The counselor also told the woman that condoms are not effective at preventing pregnancy or sexually transmitted diseases because they are "naturally porous."

This one I've always wondered about how people can think it works that way.

Step 1) Fill a bottle with water.
Step 2) Unroll a condom and stick it over the mouth of the bottle.
Step 3) Flip the bottle over so the water flows into the condom.
Step 4) Note the lack of water flowing out of the "pores" in the condom.

If it effectively holds water, it's going to hold back sperm.  Sure if you filled a condom with sperm laden fluid and put it under pressure and left it inside a woman for an extended period of time then some might well escape.  But given how few sperm actually make it to the egg even when there's nothing impeding their progress the chances of pregnancy are rather slim.

I can hold water in foil, but grease always gets under the foil when i bake pizza rolls on a foil covered pan.

Your move. :)

Joking aside, I agree with the lack of 100% safe sex. Stairs aren't 100% safe either.

RTFA, the counselors made some truly outrageous claims.

Anyway, life is risk management.

If you're going to talk about the small percentage chance of getting pregnant while using multiple forms of birth control, let's also talk about the chances of dying of pregnancy, the chances of being raped ("legitimately") and getting pregnant from the attack, the large chance of not having sex leading to extreme irritability ...

2013-08-08 11:00:01 PM
THE JOE03,

Why read the article when I can have you give me the cliff notes?  All kidding aside, I would not, nor can not defend such claims as you posted from said article.

While the pill is not benign (compared to some of the drugs approved today it might as well be a sugar cube) it does have some potential side effects.  Condoms when they do their job are great, unfortunately, it is not uncommon for a Trojan to pretend it is a Firestone tire...

Look, I accept that every human activity has potential drawbacks and there is no way possible to eliminate all risks to human activity.

While I am Pro-Life and do think abstinence does have a place in sex-ed, I do believe that abstinence is only one part of a comprehensive sex-ed program that honestly talks about other forms of birth control.

While the truth of the matter is, if you don't want to get pregnant or contract an STD, don't have sex...The reality of the situation is if you follow that advice life will be quite boring.

IMO, the more important aspect of this debate is what age is appropriate to move from "don't have sex," to "if you are going to have sex, these are the ways to reduce your risk..." and finally, "you are an adult, pregnancy isn't your greatest fear, so this is how to reduce the chance of getting an STD.."

Sadly, it does work on a lot of people, because of slut-shaming.  Women don't want to be seen as sluts, so they criticize other women as sluts to make themselves look better.  This especially happens around abortion:  "Well, I'm a happy married woman and I'm not some cheap slut who has to get abortions and use birth control because she can't keep her legs together."
