Russia, Brazil, China... olympics sure are on a 'shiathole world tour' lately.

You know dam well that if he had leaked secrets from Russia he would have been killed along with his girlfriend and family.

I think this is my favorite suggestion for how the IOC should deal with Russia: ban them from participating in the Sochi Olympics.

And if snowden was russian, we would't know his name, because he would be in a shallow hole somewhere outside Krasnoyarsk.

Russia is entertaining snowden solely to stick it to the US. nothing more.

Considering how many athletes/teams that may pull out (ha!) for Russia's anti-LGBT stance, I'd say their projection (HA!) is justified.

When we look back on it, everyone seems somewhat flabbergasted and ashamed that the 1936 games took place in Berlin and nobody said or did anything about it.   I suspect we'll regard the 2014 Winter games similarly someday

I was hoping with the latest CBA/lockout and the transfer-agreement crap over the last few years, that the NHL would not grant a break to accommodate the olympics. Either the reds have to skip playing in their home country, or they have to foreit their NHL careers and go home.

Either way, its a win for the NHL.

Yes; or even if he made fun of pooty poot. But, my point still stands; he had to flee to a country with a horrible human rights reputation to escape prosecution for, essentially, telling everybody something they already knew.

I thought Sochi was a bad pick because it's 15 miles from an active war zone.  At some point they really need to stop digging.

Indeed.

While pooty poot may be a sociopath; he's not stupid. Once he gets tired of playing golf with snowden; he can use him to renegotiate the entire Russia US relationship dynamic. Or he could threaten to allow snowden to continue leaking secrets; with the same result.

/ it's an absolute masterstroke

// Obama should have gone to Russia with a dozen extra "valets" and disappeared snowden; no one would have ever been sure it was us or the Russians

Russia 2013 is basically Germany 1935. Let's hope Russia 2017 isn't Germany 1939.

no body was examined, no pictures

The International Olympic Committee sure seem to have a fetish for totalitarian regimes. Berlin 1936. Bejing 2006. Salt Lake City 2002.

Don't tell me there's no bribery involved.

I'm sure you're aware of the fact that when the 1936 Olympics were awarded to Berlin, the Nazis weren't yet in power.

Berlin '36 was where Jesse Owens totally punked Hitler and every Nazi claim of the white Aryan Superman. In a way, it was the first crack in the Thousand Year Reich.

And all they did later was systematically kill 6 million Jews and start the worst war humanity has ever seen.

Maybe the Olympic hockey teams using NHLers can skip Sochi altogether and have a competition somewhere else instead. Vancouver perhaps.

I think you missed the "they" in the previous comment.  Unless Jesse Owens was multiple people, which I assume would be cheating.

This is true.

It's also true that he shouldn't have to worry about exposing illegal government activities in the US. Nor should the US government be attempting to cover up said illegal activities.
