Funny that they think Obama is pulling strings and essentially running the place...and we in America generally think he's not doing shiat.

One of us is wrong.

While Obama was leading the way, and Total Farkers were patting themselves on the back for assisting, Glenn Beck said that it would end this way. Its funny that he is smarter than you all, despite his craziness.

Fine we will take our billions of dollars and go home. Good luck!

As a follower and fan of him can you tell us what he was saying regarding this issue?

Basically FTFA: "The US should intervene. The US should not intervene."

No matter what the US does we're not going to be loved in the Arab world.  Can we settle for feared?

"Oh America, why do you interfere?"

Good idea for our new national anthem.

Well, the Sphinx is still intact, so I guess not so well.  Go blow that shiat up already!

"At rallies held by both sides, anti-American chants are common."

Okay, cool, you say you don't want that annual $1.3B in aid anymore? Fine, there's a lot we can fix at home with that money.

We'll just leave you alone to cycle back and forth between religious fundamentalist and military despot rule, then. Have fun with that.

/simplistic, wishful thinking

Interfering in other countries is good when my guy does it, but not when the other does it.

Libya wilk end the same way. As will Syria

Yeah, but we're concerned about Egypt in this thread, not America.

2013-08-08 12:12:13 PM
Anti-US sentiment is growing on both sides of Egypt's political divide.

Or, as they call it in the Middle East, "Thursday." Do something, they hate us. Do nothing, they hate us. Fark 'em. They want to keep oppressing and murdering each other, they can do it themselves.

2013-08-08 12:13:43 PM
How is handling this diplomatically like Team America?

So far Obama has pretty much stayed out of it. The military in Egypt is quite different than other countries. If this leads to another round of elections, and a far less theocratic government gets in, Egyptian will be happy.

As it were, Muslim Brotherhood was quickly becoming unjust.

So you think that for $1.3B in aid, we were getting nothing in return.
This is what you really think.
And you think it's a smart move to stop getting what we were getting for the aid.

Evolution of Middle East opinion:

1) Nuke them all!
2) Read up on cultures, make some informed opinions
3) Watch as every form of deplomacy tried in the past has failed horribly
4) Nuke them all!

I guess that depends what we were actually getting for the aid.  I, honestly, haven't a clue what that was.  Maybe Suez Canal access, but we would probably make due without that.

We don't give the Egyptian military trailer-loads of cash.  A lot of that "aid" comes with strings attached,if not actually in form of, say, a voucher good for one (1) fighter jet, no returns for cash, not transferable to non-US arms manufacturers, not transferable to Libya, etc.  Otherwise there'd be no point to the aid as it would all go for Italian suits or into offshore bank accounts.

Popcorn Johnny: Why do we send Egypt so much foreign aid, or any foreign aid at all?

It looks better than direct subsidies for the US defense industry. And of course it buys you at least some influence, too.

2013-08-08 01:32:21 PM
Well, originally the aid was "Cold War" aid -- knowing that despots would side with the Soviet Union if not at least a little bribed meant you had to hold your nose and deal with some people you'd rather not cut off if it ever came to a fight with the big enemies.

Now... it's just because we think collapse means a bigger recruiting pool for idiots like Al Qaeda.  Or potentially even a new client state -- and fighting Egypt would be rather different from fighting Afghanistan.

Fact is that the world would be a lot quieter if America stopped meddling in Arabic countries. Including Israel.

How would Americans feel if Egypt meddled in US politics?

I apparently missed the part where I said any of those things... probably because I didn't. TANSTAAFL

Also, Egypt doesn't give us that much back for the sheer dollar amount they receive compared to other ME nations, at least as can be publicly acknowledged (and most of that money should be public admission, when you talk in the billions).
