Hero... Honestly I don't get it. I mean, I take umbrage when the hero tag gets applied to "Guy surprises his kids after coming back from Afghanistan early" applications of the hero tag, so I'm probably not one to talk. But really, what's the heroic act here?

This Looks Fun: But really, what's the heroic act here?

You got me. It was certainly a "nice" gesture on Ronaldo's part to intentionally diffuse the situation by holding on to him so the kid doesn't get his ass kicked by security, but....

Set it to some mid-90s R&B and it's rather touching.

Well that headline sure won't help dispel the notion that soccer is the gayest sport on the planet.

We've had three "Inside World Soccer" links approved today. We haven't had an ESPN link greened since Monday. Is this Bizarro Fark? Does Drew or the whole group of modmins have a new bedfellow?

WHERE AM I!?

I miss the (sponsored link) disclaimers too.

Is it me or has there been a pretty dramatic spike in the amount of pitch invaders in friendlies played in the US recently? Basically all the Mexican league friendlies had multiple incidents (one pretty severe) and Real Madrid has had a couple these last couple weeks.

Yeah kinda. Especially with idiots saying on Twitter, "If I get 1,000 RTs I will run out there." Always gonna happen and at least dude just wanted to hug Cristiano, and not punch/kick/stab him.

This.  I am woefully behind on news about the Lakers, LeBron James, Lamar Odom's wife, and Tim Tebow.

Pretty confident it's Arabic.

More amusing is that billboard in the back "International Champions Cup - No Friendlies" ... which is exactly what it is. What a joke.

Soon the money games will be over, Bale will get sold, Rooney will stay, Suarez will flee the country if he's smart, and we'll get back to some meaningful matches.

//This weekend actually with the Bundesliga, or now with CL/EL qualifiers

Why do they call it a pitch when it is flat?

Tellurium: Why do they call it a pitch when it is flat?

From the list of things you wanted to know but not enough to look up, it's called a pitch because it used to be played on the same fields as cricket. And in cricket you put in the steaks at both ends and it was referred to pitching the stumps, because stakes are used to pitch a tent.

One of my gay friends is obsessed with Ronaldo.  Obsessed.  He's a good-looking man and all, but no man in his thirties have a poster up in his room.

Thanks.  Makes perfect sense now.
