Yeah, I for one am pretty pissed about it.  Every time a player is bought under a huge contract, it's a total bust - because the player's best years are all behind him at that point, they're the ones that got him to the point where he could demand a brazillion-dollar contract.

Back in the day, the Angels paid well, but looked for solid fielding and hitting.  It worked for them once.  Looks like it'll be a while before we get back there.

/Angels fan before it was "cool"

As much as it pains me, I have to admit Subby is right.  The Red Sox have had too good a season this year - huge comeback wins the past two nights - 11 walk offs...  that's the kind of season that leads to the World Series.  I seriously hope they lose in the ALDS, but I'm not counting on it.

Oh, and stop slacking, Oakland.

in fairness, and I say this as a Sox fan, they had comebacks against the worst team in baseball

Are they even winning their division? I thought Tampa was winning the East at the moment.

Yes, that is true, but you know how when future champion race horse is trained against slower horses it can easily beat?  The future champion horse gets used to winning, so that when it faces a real test, it has the confidence to push hard and win.

I confess I don't follow the AL as much. Of course I knew that the Angels got Hamilton too, but I didn't know he was doing that bad. At least he's not injured now, right? Has he killed any more fans or gotten back on drugs (again) yet?

Aside from the Rays having brief half game leads July 26, 27, 29 and 30, the Red Sox have lead the AL East by an average of 3 games since May 27, and currently have a 2.5 game lead over the Rays, and a 6 game lead over the third place Os

OK. So let me ask you this, then. Why would a Red Sox fan take such glee in the Angels getting swept? The Angels are 13 games back in the AL West. They are 7th in line for the Wild Card spot. I wouldn't exactly call them a threat. I'm just confused as to why a story about the Angels getting swept would get a headline kissing Boston's ass?

BTW, the Angels were swept. Twice. In ten days. By the Rangers. I just really like saying it.

Probably by taking their lumps and replacing overpriced, aging players with younger ones from within their system.  Or, the exact opposite of what the dumbass front office of the Yankees does.  Get ready for last place next year.

whoa whoa whoa. The article was about the Rangers kicking the Angel's ass. The song started out with that but the point of it was that yes, kicking the ass of the worst team of the AL West is all well and good  but in the end, you're still going to lose to the Sox in October.

Where is this boston ass kissing? There's a mockery of the angels, there's a mockery about non-AL East teams doing such an asskicking when the AL East will probably hold the AL champs if not the WS champs and that the Sox are most likely going to win the AL East

no ass kissing, just a very probable reality

No. Pointing out the idiocy of writing a headline lauding the Red Sox when it was the Rangers who just swept the Angels (who are not a threat to Boston in the least) is not me being angry. I'm still holding out hope that the Yankees treat 2014 as an honest-to-goodness rebuilding year, even if they win the A-Rod Suspension Lottery.

Re-sign Cano, and that's -IT- in terms of big spending. Granderson can walk (thanks for everything, no hard feelings, but it's time), develop Zoilo Almonte instead (and you still have a year of Ichiro in outfield, too). Maybe toss $15M/1 yr Kuroda's way if he still wants to pitch.

The Bestest: Granderson can walk (thanks for everything, no hard feelings, but it's time),

On the other hand, since he's been injured most of this year, he may not have much to go on to demand a really good new deal - he could be a cheap get for whoever - why not the Yankees?

Granderson's injuries were both of the "freak" variety (both by HBP) and he's been fairly durable throughout his career otherwise. He's gonna demand Swisher money. Pass. Yankees still have Ichiro, Almonte, Gardner and (sigh) Soriano.

2013-08-08 01:05:13 PM
Fark the Red Sox and everyone in their organization --yes, part-time beer seller, I'm looking at you-- and every last one of their fans, I hope they all die slow, painful, agonizing deaths. Oh, and the Red Sux fans that live in California? Slow, painful, agonizing, deaths that have people refusing to bury their putrid, rotting flesh, leading to packs of rabid dogs feasting on their corpses.

The Angels hit a bottom last night, they look terrible. The pitching staff is atrocious, they have Weaver and Wilson and pray for rain. Of course, the one thing the front office really needed to do was revamp the bullpen, but, hey, Josh Hamilton. The only bright spot is the younger players like Shuck and Calhoun.

Luckily, Scioscia is probably gone after this season.

/Angels fan since 1974

Because if you're not going to challenge for a World Series title (which they aren't) there's no reason to bring back old players once their contracts are up.  Curtis Granderson will not play for a championship team as a Yankee, so his Yankee career ends when his current contract does.

Y'all are playing some quality baseball right now. If my Athletics don't win it all, I hope the Rangers do. Division solidarity and all that. It's gonna be an interesting month and a half, anyway.

/good luck, I hope you lose :)
