(Mercury News)   Captain Kangaroo puppeteer Cosmo Allegretti, who you know better as Mr Moose, Bunny Rabbit and Dancing Bear, goes to the great treasure house in the sky at 86. No word yet if he'll be buried under field of ping pong balls and carrots   (mercurynews.com) divider line 29

Once upon a time network TV cared about kids. Now its just wall to wall gossip and "news." The Captain was cool and educational. Man do I feel old today.

Dancing Bear later went on to have a fairly successful career in a...ahem...web series.

Whose only actual speaking role was as "Tiny Tim Cratchitt" in Mr. Magoo's Christmas Carol, one of the very best adaptations of Dickens's classic ever, live action or animated.

/Submitted this with a more comprehensive headline.

Keeshan cared about kids (and selling Schwinn bicycles). The networks cared about selling cereal.

FTFY...I was a Capt Kangaroo kid in the early to mid 70's and his show was the reason I had to have a Schwinn Deluxe Stingray with the 3" wide HIGH PERFORMANCE SLICK rear tire...

/RIP Mr. Puppeteer man from my childhood
//wish I hadn't trashed that Schwinn Stingray....those things are worth major coin today

Captain Kangaroo was one of the very few kids shows back in the '50s. Garfield Goose and Friend(s) was another. We were the second family in the neighborhood to get a TV. I was very surprised to see a picture of Bob Keeshan when he started doing CK. He was around 25.
