What's the point of being a lawmaker if you're not above the laws you make?

2013-08-07 01:04:54 PM
I for one welcome our new parking overlords

I just don't care, but I don't live in Colorado and here in Oklahoma we have our own problems with lawmakers.

Call me when you can still have your freedom taken away for having a plant in your pocket.

If you vote for them, they will come

in your mouth.

Hopefully, they also have special license plates on their cars, making them easy to identify. Not that I'd advocate throwing bricks through the windows of such cars.

"That's true," Williams said, "And it's the glitch in the system".

I have a strong feeling that most of the lawmakers feel this is a feature of the system rather than a bug.

FTA: Apparently there has been a change of heart, Williams said now that would be too costly and perhaps too difficult to figure out.

However, should you, ordinary citizen, steal one of the license plates, I imagine they'd find out very quickly.  I mean, how would you NOT know who you gave the damn plate to?

I understand there's usually some laws in place to make sure legislators aren't impeded going to or while performing their duties.  Fine, don't make them pay tickets or parking.  But dammit, there should be a very public database listing how much these guys would have owed if they'd just been you or I.

How about abolishing that radar-photo bullshiat altogether?

I've gotten nailed by the cameras 3 times in 3 years in Fort Collins. Each time, I sent them the same letter telling them that the driver of the car cannot be identified. Each time the ticket was dropped.

It's random revenue generation scheme, and it has zero impact on traffic safety. And they know it.

In Denver they sent me a ticket and it really WASN'T me driving, but they said, "Tough shiat, pay it"

Under rule of law the law applies equally to everyone. Under rule of man there is a set of laws for the political aristocracy, a set of laws for the knighted class, and another set of laws for the peasantry. The costumes have changed over time, though.

meh.

They're probably too stoned to notice the color of a traffic light or read parking signs.

Odd.  In Maryland, camera tickets are sent to the registered owner of the car, regardless of whether he/she was driving. (No license points are assessed). Is it different in CO?

Ow! That was my feelings!: They may be immune from traffic tickets, but they are not immune from recall elections.

If you want to get a 100,000 thousand or so signatures together for a lawmaker who skates on traffic tickets, then force the state to spend millions on a recall elections based on a traffic ticket loophole, you have way too much friggin' time on your hands and you're DOING IT WRONG.

Just write Hickenlooper, if he hasn't started working on a fix, he'll hold the lawmakers accountable.   Hell, he's a guy who built his political career on making changes to parking meters.

So register their plates at their location of work, there has to be a place they get mail .

It doesnt have to go to their house. Then on the ticket make sure to say they are responsible for the fine not the tax payers.

It was sent to the registered owner, me. I think the difference is that in CO the burden of proof is on them to prove it was you driving. If it wasn't, you can appeal and they have the option to drop it, which they usually do if the picture doesn't clearly show your face.

Kind of a loophole, but so is municipally-funded, profit-driven privatization of traffic safety.

Instead of wasting time and money trying to ID the car owners, swap the problem around. TOW the car and force the owner to ID the car for you. Or, if you prefer, just boot it in place. Either way you'll get their attention.

There is no mention of Steel in the bible!
Steel starts with S because its from Satan.
The mixing of Iron and Carbon is a perversion of god's plan.

This happened because of security concerns, supposedly.  Even as they work to strip civilians of the last vestiges of their privacy, the federal and some state governments are also trying new and more creative ways to allow police, prosecutors and other officials (who can plausibly claim that their job duties require extra personal security) to hide their home addresses, phone numbers, social media accounts, etc., all without falling afoul of various laws that prohibit using false identifiers.  Want to join the apparat now? Another of the ways LEO's are encouraged to be and are becoming more like soldier-spies than community peace keepers.

/outrage over parking perk tempered by reserve of goodwill towards these particular legislators

The excuses used by the law enforcers make no sense. Those plates are recognizable for what they are, there's a record somewhere of who they correspond to, and you should be able find that info out with a phone call to the right party. So get off your asses and process them manually if you have to. Earn your damned pay for a change and don't try to slough this off as, "Oh, those aren't in our database."

/If I ran the world, etc.

2013-08-07 06:17:53 PM
Oh yeah, and keep a record of the scofflaw plate numbers who you "can't find" and boot and/or impound their cars until they cough  up some money. You don't need a friggin' database for that.

which,. of course by Fark logic. means that its okay for the current people to be stupid and be above the law, because someone in the past somwhere has also been stupid.  So, see, the OTHER side did something similar once, so both sides are completely innocent.
