Do any of these Apple/Android/Playstation/Xbox/PC/Linux/Whatever fanboys really see themselves as any different than the fanboys from the "opposing" views?  It's one of those issues that seems to bring out the worst of the nerd rage.

I use whatever tech I feel is right for the occasion.  Anyone who thinks one platform is radically superior to another is at best misinformed.

Weird... Wasn't it just a few years ago that the console players would go on and on and on(and on) about how superior their consoles were? How odd, we were told over and over and over(and Over) that PCs were "dead", and we would all eventually adopt the "superior" consoles, now we're hearing the opposite, despite the fact that there haven't been huge leaps forward in PC hardware for quite awhile now, and they constantly keep coming out with new consoles.

Oh well, glad I didn't buy a $500 boat anchor. That's for sure.

Absolutely they are different.

Let me give you a slightly off-kilter example: I'm from Wisconsin. I love cheering for my team, and they have obliged us by being the champs 13 times.

There are other people, from other places, that root for other football teams. Yet, for all the hand-wringing and whining, they root for a team that hasn't won as many championships as the Packers have. Thus, they are an inferior team.

See how easy that is?

Oh, sure, you can make bullshiat arguments, like, "from 1999 to 2004, noone made better selling FPSes than id" and try to say they're the greatest game makers ever, but those are exactly that....bullshiat arguments. So long as you have non-standard or non-quantifiable things as your yardstick, you cannot comparably measure against each other.

If you want to compare number of boxes sold in a certain date range, or the number of football games won in a certain range, you can. But that doesn't make either 'superior' on the grand stage. That's just picking specific circumstances to make yourself feel better about your choices.

I always feel caught in the middle. I love my i7 gaming PC, I love firing up the xbox and playing with friends on Live, and I love hunkering down in bed and killing some time with a fun little tablet game. But according to who you ask, I am "ruining" gaming or "not a real gamer."

Ahh the good ole days.  I remember getting it on cable internet as soon as it was announced and was one of those LPBs for a few months before everyone else caught up.

Now it's the opposite, it's better to have a worse connection (at least for CoD) because then you get better lag compensation and you can shoot someone with a sniper rifle and hit in front of them and it will still count as a kill.

Don't listen to those f***wits.  There's a reason gaming companies are putting controller support into PC games when applicable.  Even the PC master race is getting tired of KB/M and wants controls you can use while sitting on your couch and playing on your 60" TV.

Building a HTPC is the best way to bridge the PC and Console gaming worlds.  It's fun, you get cheaper games, and the indie scene is thriving and generating some awesome games.

True, but with things like Live Arcade and PSN, those types of games are also available for consoles, too. Not sure if there's as many as the ones that come out on say, STEAM, I haven't been around a console for a few years.

XBLA has a very strong lineup of great games, some of which are exclusives, but most of which are also available on PC.

Sadly, PSN lags far behind Xbox and PC in smaller releases.

It doesn't seem like there's much that's available on consoles that isn't also available on PC. When I still played PS3 I don't think I wound up playing a single game other than InFamous that I couldn't have gotten on the PC.

Mouse/keyboard is a vastly superior control system to controllers for first and third person shooters (and controllers can be used on PC for games where they are the better setup, such as driving games), and current consoles have graphics that are literally seven years out of date.  The days of having to replace your computer every couple years are also long gone, and prices have gone down tremendously.  (Plus, you probably have a computer already for web surfing and the like-spend the extra hundred bucks and get a better one.)

The only case where a console is the superior system, IMHO, is for "real life social games"; IE party and sports games where multiple people located in the same room play at the same time on the same screen, mainly because it's easier to hook a console up to a big screen TV (although features like Steam's Big Picture mode are helping making this easier on the PC as well).  There are also exclusives on each console, although PC exclusives also exist.

As for costs (beyond the initial console/computer purchase), you can buy, sell, and rent used games for consoles while you can't for PC, but Steam sales sell stuff for so cheap you don't need to.  Plus, unlike all Xbox systems and the upcoming PS4 (but not the current PS3), online gaming on the PC has no additional fees (above the cost of internet access); IE, Xbox Live Gold.

Heh, State of Decay is on my list to buy next. I just got done working my way through Ms. Splosion Man and Shadow Complex, which have been my two latest XBLA obsessions. Both of them were fantastic.

I haven't bought a full price, AAA title for a console in over a year. XBLA games - and to a lesser degree some PSN games - have become my primary source of gaming entertainment. There are a lot of really high quality games on XBLA. Sadly, they don't get a whole lot of press.

There are some things that can't be duplicated on the PC, like the experience of sitting down and playing a game with a bunch of friends sitting on the couch. If I want to play Far Cry 3 solo, I'll sit on my PC where running solo, yeah, it's better. Or say games like Skyrim, where the mods available make me damn near pity people who bought it for consoles. But say I wanted to play a game with friends, it doesn't make sense to have them bring over their towers, monitors and peripherals. Consoles are great for playing with friends and having a good time as a group, while PCs aren't.

Elegy: Shadow Complex

There were rumors of a second one coming out... hope it does!

Not exactly.  There's certainly cheaters but with dedicated servers and good anti-cheats, it is kept down quite a bit.  This is coming from someone you used to play BF1942 on EA servers before they instituted anti-cheat...then watched the first anti-cheats get put in place.

And you may be experiencing the calamity that is CoD on PC.  Cheating is horribly rampant in CoD games and the lack of dedicated servers has a lot to do with that.

Actually, the rumors were that SC2 was largely finished, but the developer put all of the resources into their iOS game (Infinity Blade) rather than wrap up the release. Last I heard chAIR was still looking for a partner to help them finish the game.

I really, really hope that they do release the sequel, and soon. Shadow Complex was such a fun game.

Strategy games.  When I start seeing Europa Universalis IV or Crusader Kings II for consoles, then I'm in; otherwise I have to keep a PC around.  Plus MS Flight Sim and its millions of third-party add-ons.
